I’m reaching here, but is Jeff Green a depth option? He looked good with Houston. I don’t think we have the role for him he might want though. He also usually disappoints.

Thought we could have a thread to focus on free agency starting tomorrow. Here’s what we currently have. Gauranteed contracts in bold, expected back in italics, other options normal.

Chris Paul/Cam Payne/Elie Okobo
Devin Booker/Jevon Carter/Ty-Shon Alexander
Mikal Bridges/Abdel Nader
Cam Johnson/Dario Saric/
Deandre Ayton/Jalen Smith/Aron Baynes

Think biggest need is a 2/3 wing. A 3rd pg would be nice. I don’t mind keeping Okobo as a developmental guy. Probably 2 more bigs for depth if we don’t bring back Diallo/Baynes.
Is Rubio and Oubre better than Paul and Nader?

We need a good player on the new roster to make the trade pay off.

I'm talking league minimum type deal here. I wouldn’t spend our MLE on him.

I don't care if it was a dollar a game. There is a reason he can't stick with any team for any length of time.

I'm sure it is but it would be great to ram that point home (CP3 what's your network got :) ).

That’s just silly, there’s also a reason teams keep wanting him. Like I said, I’m not spending MLE money on him, but if he wants to come along for the ride and be an 11th man, I’d take him cheap. He’s got size, he can shoot, he can dribble. He can defend.

I brought it up in another thread before I saw this one, but I'm interested in the idea of Austin Rivers. He can handle the ball and he can back up the 1-3 spots. Obviously I wouldn't allocate a ton of the FA money to him, but I think he's an efficient way to fill some holes on the bench.

I'm struggling to find a wing/forward bench guy that makes sense with the budget and role. Marvin Williams on or near a vet minimum contract would be solid, but I wouldn't want him actually getting minutes if the roster is fully healthy.

Garrett Temple is another guy in that mold. I'd be happy with him on the end of the bench only getting minutes if a regular rotation player is out.
Add Allonzo Trier at backup guard (my favorite candidate, actually). Jordan Clarkson produces more (15ppg for CLE and Utah this season) but would be much more expensive. Alec Burks. Trey Burke. Frank Jackson.

More of a pure PG, we could look at DJ Augustin or Jeff Teague.

I agree on Jeff Green; he sounds bad if you think of MLE, but for the BE it's a really good move. For that SF/PF depth role on the cheap I'd take a look at Solomon Hill and Caboclo (no joke, when he played in MEM he did ok).

And a guy who low-key could also be good for cheap depth is Evan Turner.

Free agency begins in 8 hours. If we don’t do anything in the trade market, and assuming we re-sign Saric and Carter, we have 5 spots to fill. My guess(which will surely be wrong)

MLE: Paul Millsap on a 2 year deal(2nd year player option)
BAE: Alec Burks on a 2 year deal(2nd year player option)

Then 3 minimum signings. I could see Jordan McRae here. We tried to get him last year, but Detroit got him first. Though if we get Burks he becomes less necessary. I keep Okobo, then just add a vet min C..maybe like John Henson.

Paul, Payne, Okobo
Booker, Burks, Carter
Bridges, Johnson, McRae
Millsap, Saric, Nader
Ayton, Smith, Henson

So Millsap, Burks, McRae, Henson...I’ll throw Denzel Valentine as a wildcard. Hoping to get 1 right, haha

I don't see Millsap as worth the MLE. I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I was hoping for a bigger name FA to justify making the CP3 trade.

Me too. Although he’d be a mediocre signing at this point. Portland will likely sign him though.
I’d really like to have someone with fresher legs.

Sure, so was I, but who better than Millsap is signing for the MLE? Bertans wants 18 million, Hayward didn’t opt out of 34 million to sign for 9. Grant can get more from Denver. Gallo is the one I’m still wondering about. I guess we could go after Crowder?

I think you only need to play him 20-24 minutes a game. Rest him on back to backs. We should have enough depth.

Is this accurate?
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/

According to that, there are only 7 teams with more cap space than the MLE.
Knicks
Hawks
Pistons
Pelicans
Heat
Raptors

Gordon Hayward opted out of 34M, so I assume he's got more than that promised by the Knicks.

We have a great chance to get good players on the MLE.

I think there are only 4 types of message board posters, and 90% of what each type posts fits into one (and only 1) bucket:

Type A: Cheerleader--Nearly every move the team makes is great
Type B: Nay-sayer--Nearly every move the team makes is bad
Type C: Mr. GM--Every move I suggested would have been better!
Type D: Fence-sitter--I'm not sure how I feel about this yet (but will emphatically say they were in the camp early of whichever way it turns out)

Maybe there is one more type:

Type E: Howler Monkeys--Just here to sling shit and watch chaos ensue

We need to win or contend like all hell in the next couple of years to beat and stay ahead of LAC, LAL, DEN, and DAL. These soft ass mle prospects just wont get that done. Taking a big swing would be a big difference maker. Sign and trade Saric and Baynes + draft picks for Hayward. Then we discuss veteran minimums and such.
