If he keeps up his +50% 3P shooting on almost 4 attempts a game, while keeping his A:TO ratio in check I will be extremely happy.

Crowder said he wants to make DA as tough as possible. Feels like he can be the anchor defensively and a huge part of putting the whole team together. Said he's already having conversations with him since signing.
I LOVE that!

Great interview with Crowder. Turned down more money from the Mavs to build something in Phoenix, saw a better role for himself here.

I really, really hope Crowder can do that, and love that he wants to do that.

[negative nancy] it isn't a good sign that players around the league, especially tough minded players, see DA and think "I can fix him" and "he isn't tough enough."[/negative nancy]

I mean, everyone around here who pays attention has been saying the same things about Ayton, so what's different about players saying the same thing?

I'd be more worried if they said that Ayton's doing fine because he's clearly missing an edge to his game.

I wasn't saying that people shouldn't say that. I was saying that when it is so apparent, to both players in the league and just casual fans, it clearly has been something he has been told already. Probably over and over and over. So, is he what he is? Or can you flip a switch and make a non-aggressive player into an aggressive one? Right now he seems like the imperfect mix of Amare and Diaw.

Let us remember that DeAndre Ayton is only 22 years old. Guys grow and mature in their 20s. He will be a much different player, and person, 5 years from now.

Would you sign him to the max? My guess is that's what he's going to want.

That's not a decision we have to make in training camp this year.

Yeah, I get that people in their early 20s still mature/change/develop. But do you really see someone going from avoiding contact and avoiding dunks to seeking them? My ultimate hope is that he does that, and becomes an All-NBA level center for us. My realistic hope is that we find out either way in the next 8 months, and are not just teased with an outburst every 8 or 9 games.

But we do before training camp in 2021. Most likely before the draft.

I think part of drafting Jalen Smith was to both complement Ayton's, um, finesse, with some power and force while also keeping an eye towards a potential future without Ayton and sliding Smith into that spot.

Not necessarily, unless he makes a big leap this year, I’m not giving him an extension. At that point I think you make him play out year 4 unless he’s signing for less than the max.
