Betting Game

Post by Cap »

We’re going to give this another try. But no betting on the Suns! Trying to be objective about them just ain’t fun. So we’ll bet on national TV games not involving the Suns.

Eligible games

Games eligible for betting are on national TV. NBA TV and LP don’t count. National TV means ABC, TNT, ESPN, sister channels, etc. In the case of regional broadcasts, it is the Phoenix broadcast that counts.

First few games:
  • 12/11/20 SAC@POR
  • 12/13/20 LAC@LAL
  • 12/15/20 BOS@PHI
  • 12/15/20 GSW@SAC
  • 12/17/20 GSW@SAC
  • 12/18/20 BRK@BOS

Scoring

Everybody starts with $1000. You bet as much of your stake as you want on each game at even money. Can’t bet more than you have.

Eight days until the first game, so questions, comments, suggestions...

Would it be better to start with the regular season?

Rule for discussion: if you bet your whole stake and lose, are you done for the season, or do you get to start over?

Maybe have a preseason betting game too..reset back to $1000 once regular season starts. Seems like dropping to 0 should eliminate you though. Maybe put in a certain amount of redo’s?

zero redos. and I like the idea of trying it out in preseason so we all work out the kinks before real games begin.

How do we want to handle situations like 12/15, where the first game may or may not finish before the second begins? Should we just treat all games on the same day as simultaneous?

Yeah, I wasn't paying attention. Thought that was a regular season game. I'm cancelling that bet. I vote for season games only. Or, a practice run in preseason.

Seems to me like we have a consensus. Preseason is practice, everybody starts over at $1000 on 12/22.

All games on the same day are treated as simultaneous. The total of your wagers may not exceed your stake at the start of the day.

So we have to bet on the Suns and just pick the dollar amount or can we pick the other teams? That would kind of suck betting against the Suns and then they win.

No, Suns games are excluded. No betting on the Suns, or against the Suns.

I also agree that there shouldn't be a do-over... any point in making the bets privately?

Should there be a declaration of entry at start of season? Otherwise might get a little unruly in terms of record keeping...

Are we doing straight win/loss, or playing with vegas odds/points? [can you tell I don't gamble and have no idea what the actual terms are?]

Straight win/loss, even money.

Too bad it’s not real, eh?
