💪👍 8-)

These guys really like each other too. I saw Mikal hugging Cam on the sideline just before a commercial break.

Cam & Mikal are apparently really close. They are the same age & needed to add similar things to their game so worked together all off season.
Go Suns!

The UofA connection and Amare nostalgia certainly didn't help a lot of people subjectively evaluate Ayton.
Got me immortalized (for five years, anyway) in Split’s sig, and had me projecting 50 wins when Vegas was saying 38.5.
Haha, one thing I’ll say is Ayton is very important to our defense. If we ever end up moving on from him, we’d need to replace his defense at the 5.

Also my hope is Ayton figures some stuff out quick and I look pretty stupid in my own sig.

Yup Yup
There might have been some reservations with our Older rookies but it came with a maturity and understanding of the game is very evident as example by how well they cut off the ball. Infuse some self confidence when they learn things they can be successful at and it looks like we're on to something
Every interview I saw with Cam he said the same thing when asked about his off-season, "just continuing to try improve on what worked in the bubble".

Was quietly confident they could build on that play and early signs are great

One pretty obvious success of the defense early on has been a focus on preventing threes, and contesting the threes that opposing teams are taking as much as possible.

https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/opponen ... G3M&dir=-1

The team is currently second in fewest opposition 3-pt attempts (behind only Indiana) and also second in lowest opposition 3-pt percentage (behind, weirdly enough, the Knicks, who I guess are focusing more on defending the perimeter under Thibs). Taking both of those numbers together, the Suns lead the league in fewest made 3-pointers against by a huge margin - they're only allowing 7.8 per game, with the Knicks being next at 10.0. The gap between the Suns and the second-best team is essentially the same as between the Knicks and the Mavericks (12.3), who are 16th in the league.

It's very early, and of course numbers like this can be skewed after only a few games by playing teams who were cold that night or who focus less on the 3-point game, but I still think it's indicative of an important area of emphasis that the team's executing well right now.

Was it Monty or Mikal that talked specifically about getting Utah off the 3 point line and making Gobert be the primary decision maker?

I think Monty said they added/tweaked some things defensively and Mikal said they wanted to make Gobert more of a playmaker. Gobert got his numbers but I don't feel like he impacted the game all that much. Might've been different if we weren't hitting our shots I guess.

ESPN’s Relative Percentage Index, a strength of schedule-based formula, ranks the Suns at the top of the league.

Wow, first Zion and now Gobert?! That's seriously impressive. He knows how to use his body for rebounding position and to keep the opposition away from the hoop no matter their size.
