Game Day: Suns (4-1) @ Nuggets (1-3), Friday 1/1/21

Post by Superbone »

Time: 7:00 pm AZ (6:00 pm PT/9:00 pm ET)
Place: Ball Arena, Denver, CO
TV: FSAZ/NBALP

Can the Suns continue their string of road wins to start 2021? It will be tough as Denver is off to a rough start and will be looking to rebound (no pun intended) at home. Jokic continues to impress and will show Ayton what a real center looks like. Another strike against the Suns is that they had to travel from Utah after their win Thursday night.

Go Suns!!!

Ayton's career high came against Denver and Jokic, so there is that but it's a back to back game at altitude so put his out of shape ass down for another stinker.

Nuggs without Jerami Grant these days (who's tearing it up in Detroit on 23 and 6 for the season, up from 12 and 3.5 the season before) so that's in our favour.

Should win comfortably but not on a back to back and the bookies have the home team as favourites for that reason, not least as they've had two days rest and Booker (35 mins), Crowder (37 mins) and Bridges (37 mins) played a lot vs Utah.

The Nuggs are a great team but they look vulnerable to me. They haven't quite found their rhythm yet. I think Ayton will do better against Jokic than he did against his nemesis Gobert. I can't wait to watch our devastating swings do their work again.

If we keep playing defense this way, I feel very good about our chances. Helps that we played at altitude in Utah last night. Well, helps with the altitude/lungs, but not the tired legs.

Sagarin gives us a 51% chance, for whatever that’s worth.

With MPJ out, I think our depth can be a big advantage. I'm looking for a good game and heavier minutes from Cam Johnson tonight, as we won't need Crowder's strength so much. The Nugs are genuinely small when Millsap is on the bench. Still, Denver has a really good team and at some point Murray and Harris are going to shoot the lights out. Might be tonight. Bridges can handle Murray, so the other guys can't get lazy on Harris/Morris/Barton.

Murray torches us for some reason, if blows up I think the Nuggets are gonna give us a good run. Suns should win this, defense and 3pt shooting are hard to beat.

Ugh. Optics here look bad. Nuggets have been owning us the past couple years so we’re probably perfect team for their slump bust. Second night of a back-to-back and with out of state travel equals loss. Probably close for a few quarters before Denver ultimately pulls away.

Alot of that I think would be forcing a switch on PnR
Without watching back a game right now, I think we have changed something with our coverages because I'm not remembering Ayton being switched on to guards as much this year.
We'll see how it plays out
