He looks good. It might not be the Suns but, he’s getting playing time.
Indeed. Even when he did get some garbage time we just made him stand in the 3 pt corner so it was of little value. Good to see him get some minutes of any kind.

Is mo bamba not part of Orlando’s plans? Seems stuck behind an allstar and most indications seems to be their not in love with him. What do you think it would take to get him? I’d love him as a backup/ guy you occasionally pair with ayton.

Mildly intrigued by what he can potentially become, but I don't know that he can ever play on the court with Ayton together... If he's a backup 5 getting 18 mpg, I'd try that. Probably won't come cheap though.

The Jalen Smith highlights..

There was a pretty egregious travel in the first clip. His level is way too low for even NBA officials to give him that one. I liked the aggression and soft touch off of a quick move.

We've already seen him hit a few shots, so doing it in the G-League should be a given. His release needs to get quicker.

I'm not sold on the dribbling. He looks a millimeter away from being out of control in all of those clips. It's good that he's comfortable trying.

The defensive work looked great. 4 rebounds in 15 minutes is a bit light, but I obviously didn't watch the game so it might not have been an issue.

I'm a high school teacher and I could probably identify about 20 of my 300 students from last year because we were all wearing masks during in-person classes. I've become comfortable wearing a mask everywhere, but the inability to read facial expressions and recognize people is still tiring.

More of the same from the first clip of highlights. He clearly has NBA talent, but that dribbling isn't going to work. Looked like he was about to trip over the halfcourt stripe when it went to his left hand.

I thought it was fine. Got a little sloppy with the left at midcourt but he got the block, made a strong dribble to turn upcourt and go. He'll know to get the ball to a guard when he's back in Phoenix but in the meantime it's nice to see him looking to make that play.

It's so hard to get practice under real NBA conditions. I watch clips like that and I just think, he wouldn't be able to do moves like that against real NBA defenders. It's almost bad that he even attempts to initiate the offense so much when that won't be his role in a real NBA game. He needs to learn to play within himself and not do too much risky stuff that will just lead to turnovers. It isn't his role to initiate or run the offense, and with his current handles that won't turn out well.

There's no better way for him to improve than challenging himself to do more. I'm not worried about Smith becoming too aggressive because I believe in his bball IQ. But he does need to get a bit tighter and quicker for the NBA. I'm glad he's getting real minutes and that he's making a real impact.

No game day thread yet?

Grizzlies have a lot of people out...can’t let this be a trap game. Take care of business for 48 minutes.
