Suns Stories

Suns look like previous contenders. So, why is no one taking them seriously?

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/th ... seriously/
All of this is to say that at the moment, the Suns have the resume of a true contender. And yet … they don’t often seem to get that consideration. If they do, it’s on the fringes, at best...Projection models largely agree with that hypothetical assessment...So, what gives? Why would a team with seemingly impeccable credentials not quite measure up to its peers? In both cases, the answer lies in the likelihood that the version of the Suns we see on the floor right now is largely the same as the one we will see in the playoffs, while the same is not necessarily true of other contenders.

Phoenix is fully healthy at the moment and has been for most of the season. The Suns’ top six rotation players (Paul, Devin Booker, DeAndre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder and Cameron Johnson) have combined to miss just 12 games, meaning they’ve had their full complement of key players available around 95 percent of the time. That availability has played a key role in the Suns’ success, and the lack of consistent availability has dragged down the record of some other would-be contenders.
Barkley's daughter is getting married...for those of us old enough to remember her as a kid...

There should be a long list of Phoenix Suns trade targets already. The injury to LeBron James should have pushed the Suns towards aggressive NBA trade deadline moves.

Currently second in the Western Conference, things are falling into place for Phoenix. The Lakers are without their two stars. The Clippers are struggling. Denver has yet to go on a run. Utah is 4-5 over their last nine.

Phoenix Suns trade targets: Time to be aggressive
The Suns, meanwhile, are 11-4 across their previous 15. Their injury report is clean. Chris Paul and Devin Booker have developed a blossoming on-court relationship. Mikal Bridges is among the league’s best defensive players. They aren’t turning it over, and they’re top five in offense and defense. Phoenix has all the makings of a title contender as the trade deadline approaches.

There’s a balance to be struck. The Suns have waited so long to return to the postseason – it would be reckless to go all-in on this campaign with so much young talent on the roster. In the same breath, though, the Suns trade targets list should be aggressive. Chances at a title are rare, and there’s no doubt there is an opening for these Suns. Trading for Paul was a win-now move. They have the opportunity to do just that....

I am all for giving Gallo more consistent playing time, but he can't defend anyone well, and he isn't big enough to be a deterrent. So you play him at PG or in very limited minutes at SG. How many minutes a game are we going to play without a real PG, and how many minutes a game are we going to have Book and Paul sitting at the same time?

I’d put him in when we take Booker out to start the 2nd. If he’s cooking, I’d give him a few more minutes. There also might be some matchups where he just doesn’t make sense and that’s fine. He doesn’t have to play every game.

From all accounts, Ayton is a good kid. I'm still holding out hope for him. Not that he'll suddenly acquire a high motor but that he can just learn to be more consistent in time. Gotta give him some time. Yeah, I know it's a delicate balance but us fans are not patient. Just need to temper our expectations a little bit. Easier said than done.

There are only 2 more times this entire season where the Suns have more than 1 day off between games. And 8 more back-to-backs. 31 games in 55 days. Yeesh...

Is that a byproduct of the delayed games? Otherwise sounds rough.

We already made up 1 of them, so I think there are only 2 left to make up.

Neither Booker or Paul are fans of resting games but they may need to consider it.

We played Denver during Ayton’s 4 game out of body experience.
