I like going back five years and reading the analysis of the picks.

Its always "he's going to fit in nice to player X who is currently on the team."

Or "he is expected to replace player X when he retires".

Or "he is expected to help fix a flaw the team had last year"

In reality: Neither the player drafted nor player X will be on team very long.

With few exceptions, they ALL get traded within five years.

In fact, I'd love smarter analysis:

"Jalen, what do you think his odds are of staying in the league?"

Suns select: Dragan Bender, PF, Israel
Comment: Bender is a terrific fit for Phoenix as a stretch-four. The Suns will enjoy his ability to knock down jumpers from the outside, defend on the perimeter, and hopefully grow into a player that could eventually play some 5. He might not be an elite player right away, but no one they were realistically in the mix for was. Long-term, Bender was the best player available, and it is a smart decision from them at No. 4.

GRADE: A

There is no way that Jalen Johnson drops to the Suns. If that's the case, he's not a James Jones guy, imo, because it would have entirely to do with character and attitude. I watched him a bit at Duke this yr, and he was by far their best player and one of the best sf/pf in the country. Yet, he got benched and eventually decided to quit the team to get ready for the draft. He is without a doubt one of the most talented players in this class(and that's saying a lot, as this class is deep and loaded), but I can't see James Jones taking that chance with him.

This is so much fun.

Detroit Pistons
Overall Grade: A

No. 18: Henry Ellenson, PF, Marquette

The Detroit Pistons have to be thanking their lucky stars, because Henry Ellenson is a perfect fit for their roster. He should be similarly happy, because the Pistons are one of the organizations able to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.

FIVE YEAR UPDATE: Henry John Ellenson (born January 13, 1997)[1] is an American professional basketball player for Monbus Obradoiro of the Liga ACB.

Bender was the cowardly lion, but no one was able to identify it until he came into the league.

No picks as of right now. Sorry to see Jevon go. Haven't been overly impressed by Shamet, especially in the playoffs but he's still got a good rep around the league as a young PG.

Haha. This is why I didn't do any draft prep.

I like this trade.

I like Shamet. I’m cool with this

Figured Jones would trade the pick. Doubt he felt it was worth taking another rook given our situation and there's no guarantee you get a contributor. At least Shamet has experience and is a known commodity.

Wouldn't mind us picking up a 2nd rounder for a big tho.

A friend of mine who is from Phoenix was his Spanish teacher in Missouri. She'll be happy about this.

I liked Carter, but he was expendable. I hope he gets a chance to play regularly.

I wouldn’t have minded one of the Nets 3 2nd rounders coming back to us in that trade.

For what? 2nd rounders really don’t matter.

That makes better sense. I knew it couldn’t be strategic.

James Jones sure seems to hate 2nd round draft picks. But they can sometimes work out. Why not take a chance and see? There's no guaranteed money involved. It gives you someone to look at in summer league and training camp, and see if they're someone you want on the roster.

James Jones just saved Robert Sarver 9 million dollars.

James Jones was a 2nd rounder.
