Game Day: Suns (1-1) @ Blazers (0-1), Sun 10/23/21

Post by Superbone »

Time: 7:00 pm AZ (7:00 pm PT/10:00 pm ET)
Place: Moda Center, Portland, OR
TV: BSAZ/NBATV

Back to your regularly scheduled programming now that FF's game day curse has been broken. The Blazers didn't look too hot during our last preseason game with them. We blew them out. Let's see how they look now. Hopefully the Suns still have some gas in the tank after the Lakers beatdown last night.

Go Suns!!!

Bummer
Well we have seen glimpses already of where summer signings JaVale and Shamet show their worth

Next up Payton....
He did look solid in preseason so let's see how he does tonight

I really hope Payne isn't a guy who's constantly in and out of the lineup dealing with these nagging injuries. He looked great last night, comes up with an injury today. Had the ankle thing last season....maybe Monty wants to get Payton some run instead of Payne on a B2B but that seems like a stretch. Just don't want this to linger all season.

Glad we have Payton around as insurance. And I'm curious to see how he fits with Shamet.

Not sure why Blazers are warm favourites for this one - presumably because we are b2b?
I hope not to jinx anything but feel like we’ll go ok.

Blazers came to play. They're really active defensively, showing hard on the ballhandlers on PnRs to disrupt our rhythm. CP looks a little flat I think and hasn't been able to shake free for his Js. DA looks really good on both ends, Bridges showing some more all around game. We're getting beat on a few cuts tho so getting a taste of our own medicine. Second night in a row we've given up a layup on a BLOB play so gotta clean that up.

Down 19, 51-32 with 6 left in the 2nd. Blazers just outworking us and hitting their 3s. No clean looks for us and I don't think we look a step slow or tired from last night. Might need one of those halftime adjustments like last year to get thru this Blazers defense.

Down 20 at the half, not a lot of clean looks for us and a lot of shots rimming out. Blazers have hit a bunch of 3s and the ball is just bouncing their way. JaVale is our 2nd leading score with 10 pts, behind Book with 12, so that's how our offense is going. We're sloppy on defense, allowing a lot of penetration and cutters and then CJ and Dame start hitting 3s and we're down big.

Ayton has definitely been more aggressive going to the basket this season. Good to see.

Kind of ready to fast forward to Cam Johnson starting over Crowder.

I get that Nader is probably better and more of a "Monty" player, but I think it would be better in the long run for this team if Jalen had his minutes.

Just one of those games. Shutting it down, hope I wake up to a comeback W.

I feel like Elfrid Payton is just a better all around player than Cam Payne (especially the CP of late). I wonder if there’s any chance Monty will give him the backup PG role at some point this season.

It was just one of those games where almost every Blazer three went in. There was no room for error for us but we had plenty and missed a ton of FTs. As bad as we beat them in preseason, they beat us tonight.
