Game Day: Suns (21-4) @ Clippers (15-12), Monday December 13

Ya I’d hesitate to trade Payne for a few reasons…Gordon is super intriguing though. I’d happily move Shamet for him, but he can’t be traded. Gordon is shooting like 44% from 3 on a high volume. He can also get to the rim unlike any of our other wings. He’s got some size and has actually become a pretty good defender. He’s older and his contract is a tough one to swallow. He’s 18 million this year, 19 million next, then a non guaranteed 21 million season.
I don’t think we can get him with just Saric/Smith contract wise. Think we’d have to throw in another small deal. I’d jump all over Saric/Smith and a 1st if it works though.

Shamet and Gordon would be redundant and the drop-off in ballhandling/offensive facilitator by losing Cam Payne would probably require more minutes for Elfrid Payton, which no one wants to see.
That's not to say I don't like Gordon. He's expensive, but can absolutely swing playoff games. I expect he'll be on a playoff team by the time we get to the trade deadline.

Everyone's just itching to make a trade for a 21-5 team.

Ya a little redundant, which is why I’d love to put Shamet in the trade as Gordon is better. Can’t imagine it’s something we are looking at though.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 3:57 pmShamet and Gordon would be redundant and the drop-off in ballhandling/offensive facilitator by losing Cam Payne would probably require more minutes for Elfrid Payton, which no one wants to see.

I wouldn’t give up assets of significance for Eric Gordon. He can’t stay healthy.

Making that trade isn't the move tho. I'd be OK adding him if he were a buyout candidate and wanted to come here with no guarantee of minutes. But trading Shamet or Payne for a soon to be 33yr old with his history of injuries is too risky. Messes with the chemistry we have and also ages us up a bit, which is something we need to avoid if we're not interested in drafting for the future.

Gordon is way too good to be a buyout guy, but I do see your point. I wasn’t sure if I’d be willing to include Payne, but I would do it for Shamet no question, Gordon is just better in every way, except maybe healthShelC wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:23 amMaking that trade isn't the move tho. If they want Shamet, Smith, and a 2nd rounder, we'll talk. If they want Payne or future 1sts, we hang up.
