Not only did Ish hit the 3 but No Love for his follow slam which was when we were still keeping it interesting.....
Tough Crowd

His last 3 was pure too so obviously EJ is saying he just needs to settle himself and those made baskets should relax him. He's a good character guy, practice guy and I surely can't go out on a limb expecting any production.

But that 1-14 which was a layup until the 2nd half tonight stat was no surprise to see because I was at the point where I wasn't expecting any shot to go in lol. At least tmr I might have a little more hope

Shamet has been especially bad and hasn’t been any sort of reliable on offense. His defense isn’t as good as advertised either. I’d look to maybe try and package him with Jaylen to and try and bring an even more valuable piece back.
Landry can’t be traded this year due to his contract extension.

Also, elfrid is absolutely worthless. I’d rather go 4 on 5. Hes subtraction by addition. This is the best rotation we could field??? James has some work to do at the end of the bench. We can’t have Elfrid be 1 guard away from seeing PT.

The game was as rough as expected
Clippers D isn't exactly one to face short handed. My twin had couple moments there attacking off the bounce and making some plays with Clippers trying to take CP3 outta the actions.

As others said wish Shamet had a better game

I understand the size would have hurt on defense and despite my low expectations cause of our mix n match units I still was bummed about our on ball D
Felt like we gave up way much more dribble penetration. Like I said it's one thing having DA back there when guys get beat but just felt like they were more blow by's than usual tonight

Obviously that twin dude playing well wasn't fun either
Can't really stress about this one the way the odds were stacked

Saw most of the first three quarters and stopped because I couldn't handle anymore of Elfrid and Ish. Good for them for getting minutes in the NBA, but my expectations are very low when those guys are playing.

Not a ton to take away from this game other than being a bit disappointed in only 10 shots from Mikal. He should be trying to get at least 15 up with Booker and Ayton out.

This game has been a slog from the start for the Suns. It is not looking good so far. Looking like an L unless they can turn it up a notch or 5.
Scared of the clips yet? Haha, really neither of these teams look like they will come postseason. Not sure this game tells us anything
;) On a night when Wainright and Payton got those kinds of minutes? Nah. Even the Clippers broadcasters, who I was forced to listen to, said the Clippers played their best game of the year.

Throw this game in the trash and move on. Didn't have the bodies with Book, DA and Stix out (and Frank and Nader). I see people unhappy with us playing guys like Elf, Hutch and Wainwright but what choice do we have? They're the 13th, 14th, 15th guys on the bench. They're not supposed to be rotation players and you're not going to get impact players in those spots. We just need to get healthy.

I was thinking after December 15th. Looks like it's 6 months after the extension. October 18th is when it was reported so sometime in April which does nothing for us this season. Just have to hope he figures it out.

Happy that Wainright hit a 3 and made a put-back dunk. He really needed to see the ball go in the hoop.

Almost everybody played poorly, except for Cam Johnson and JaVale. This is the kind of game where we could really use a big night from Shamet or Mikal or Payne or somebody like that. But none of them played particularly well. I wish Mikal had it in him to just get angry on a night like this and go out and score 25 for us, but that isn't really who he is. And Shamet had another poor shooting night; 3-11 and 0-3 on 3s. I know the season stats say that Shamet is shooting pretty well for us, but that doesn't match the eye test to me. When he puts up a shot, especially off the dribble, I expect it to clank out. I wish Jalen Smith had been active tonight; we could have given him a ton of minutes instead of so much Wainright and Hutchinson and such bantha fodder.

Now we have a back-to-back and are playing Portland today. POR's defense is leagues worse than LAC's, so maybe some of our guys will be able to find some buckets. But this iteration of our team is pretty vulnerable.

I doubt we'd look to trade Shamet. He's only got another guaranteed year I believe and prob wouldn't have much trade value. Plus he's a Monty guy. He looks the part, has a good looking shot and is a good ballhandler but just can't seem to put it together consistently. I guess he's fine as a backup guard but he hasn't stepped up the way you'd hope.

Agree about Mikal. He's still too timid on offense to take over. I liked that Cam was more aggressive looking for his shot and getting to the basket. We need more of that from him on a nightly basis.

If we get DA or Stix back tonight I'll feel better. But at the same time, we might as well just let guys rest and get healthy. We know who we are and have proven it so far this year. A few December losses due to injuries doesn't mean much.

That team sure did suck last night. They were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

I don't get the hate for Shamet. I was kind of meh on the trade/extension but felt A LOT better after the details were announced and it was only 2 years. But he is still doing the job we asked him to do, and doing it well. The part that he is not good at is a full-time replacement for Devin Booker. No back up is. In his bench role, he is shooting ~40% from three on volume attempts and an average defender. Not sure you can find much better off the bench.

And if we said at the beginning of the year we would have games where we NEEDED to rely on significant minutes from Elfrid Payton, McGee, and Ish Wainright, none of us would have expected a win.

When he was extended and the details were released it was noted that the rookie extension made it so he could not be traded until the off-season, unlike free agent signings.

Just rehashing what I remember seeing

I don't hate Shamet; I'm just disappointed. He is averaging only 7.8 ppg on 36.8% FG (!!). For a guy who was brought in as a gunner, a sharpshooter, an offensive specialist, I just thought he'd be shooting and scoring better than he is. His 3pt% is 38.7%, which is funny that it's higher than his overall FG%. I don't care if he hits every single 3, but that overall FG% is atrocious. Why can't he hit any midrange jumpers or layups? Why does he clank so many shots given that he has CP3 setting him up? I just want to see a little more from the guy given our investment in him, our need for his scoring, and the fact that he doesn't do very many other things well to make up for a bad shooting performance.

I think those Shamet numbers aren't where you'd like to see them because some of them are derived from him trying to fill a bigger hole as a starter and Booker replacement. If you keep him limited to where he succeeds and coming off the bench, his production fits his compensation.

Would you guys trade Cam Payne if it got us someone like Eric Gordon?

Not sure how I feel about that from a $ and length of return. How many more years does Gordon have? Weren't we rumored to pursue him as our big free agent win like 10 years ago? He's having a great season and shooting lights out from 3. He's smaller and not as athletic, as good of a rebounder as Cam and not much of a defender. What you lose in size you gain in 3% shooting and scoring. I just wonder how you utilize a guy requiring a decent volume of shots with this roster and how many more years of high level play he has.

Edit: I'm an idiot and inserted Cam Johnson instead of Cam Payne. It's worth considering. Would Houston be okay with it (they are terrible so why not)? Do we have the cap space for him and do the salaries match up? I think when we're healthy, Cam Payne is a great fit and change of pace off the bench. I do worry about his tunnel vision though when attacking the hoop.

I don't think I would trade Payne right now. He has played great for us since the bubble up until the past month or so. He's happy to be here, he's young and athletic, loyal to our team and to Monty, and he's on a very reasonable contract. I would give Payne more time to figure things out, given all the positive impact he has had for us overall.
