2. Phoenix Suns
2021-22 record: 26-6
Previous ranking: 1

It's hard to find much to improve upon in a team with the second-best winning percentage in the NBA. But the Suns are in the bottom five in the league at just 10.6 second-chance points per game and 24th overall in offensive rebounds per game. Of course, those things are easier to deal with when you're third in the league in scoring and second in field-goal percentage. -- Lopez

Phoenix Suns
Record: 26-6
Pace: 100.7 (3) OffRtg: 110.5 (9) DefRtg: 103.4 (3) NetRtg: +7.1 (3)

The Suns’ loss to Golden State on Saturday ended a 20-game winning streak with Devin Booker in the lineup, a 15-game winning streak at home, and a 12-game winning streak in games that were within five points in the last five minutes. They entered clutch time down five and their defense wasn’t bad on the three tough Otto Porter buckets that sealed the win for the Warriors, but credit the Golden State defense for its pressure on a couple of Phoenix’s clutch possessions. The Suns remain No. 1 in both clutch offense (with Booker and Chris Paul having combined to shoot 12-for-17 from mid-range) and clutch defense.

Despite a rough shooting night (5-for-19 with only two free throws) from Booker, the Christmas loss was the Suns’ first in which they scored more efficiently than the league average, but the bigger difference between their wins and losses has been on defense. Their opponents have shot better than the league average from 3-point range in all six of their losses, but have also shot much better in the paint in those games (60% — the Warriors were 21-for-27 in the restricted area on Saturday) than they have in their 26 wins (52%).

The Suns have two more games on a stretch where they will have played 10 of 15 at home. Their visit to Boston on Friday is the start of a three-game trip and a larger stretch where they’re playing eight of 10 on the road. At 9-0 against the East (6-0 at home, 3-0 on the road), they’re the only team that hasn’t lost against the opposite conference.

Week 11: vs. MEM, vs. OKC, @ BOS, @ CHA

OKC and Boston are missing a bunch of players so if we're missing guys with Covid, those are a couple of teams we want to face, then we could get Jae and DA back over the weekend and early next week.

The league has used 541 players so far this year, the most in its history - and the season isn't half over with yet!

A reported 20% of the players in the league are in covid protocols.

Not very surprising to me considering Draymond is in COVID protocol. He runs their entire team.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to quality teams but 36pts at home to a team that I don't consider top tier defensively is interesting to say the least

I was saying my post might not age well if Warriors came back. Nuggets score 29pts in the 2nd half smh. Still managed to hold on for the 3pt win in a real shoot out for the ages 89 - 86

This really sucks, he was working on a 27-13-9 game too when it happened.

He was talented, but he was another one of those lottery picks where we didn’t even pick up their 3rd year option
My wish list: Nic Batum, Eric Gordon, Larry Nance Jr, Robert Covington, PJ Washington

And he still had the wherewithal to make the assist as he was injured.

I don't remember Earl Clark being talented. I just remember him having the perfect body for the modern game of NBA basketball but no basketball smarts.

He put up 14/9/3 with 1.4 blocks and a steal per game in college. He projected as like a poor-mans Lamar Odom. 6’10 athlete who could pass/shoot a little. Never materialized in the nba

Clark had all the tools except for any type of basketball feel or court sense.

What a time to be alive!
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. You got dudes like Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, all these 7-footers, doing everything. There's no stopping us. - Ayton

The cavs are gonna have issues with this injury … I feel like Rubio was a huge stabilizing factor in their lineup.

I’m watching the Grizzlies Lakers game while waiting for the Suns game to start, and the Grizzlies can’t hit anything. Night and day from when they played us.
