All Star Weekend 2022

There's some good stuff coming out of All Star Weekend with Monty, figured it'd be a good idea to start a thread. It's great seeing Monty a little more front and center as coach of the West. Glad he's getting some much deserved attention and recognition. Assistants Kevin Young and Bryan Gates were coaches in the Rising Stars Challenge as well. Plus we have Book and CP (maybe?) playing so there should be some highlights along the way.

Everybody's favourite What If picks (Bane and Haliburton) won this competition which was the quickest time you can score from 5 iconic spots in Playoffs history.

Magic Johnson's hook from the middle of the key along with some 3pt spots basically made up the challenge

Barnes n Maxey did their thing

I turned on a bit of the Celebrity Game last night and recognized not a single "celeb." Yawn.

I have that problem a lot. I watch the show masked singer and half the time I have never heard of the ‘celebrity’. We must be getting old. Celebs now days are You Tube ‘influencers’ and ‘Tic Toc’ celebs.

Embrace the Social Media age fellas because that's where most of them come from

I am a big track n field guy so had a kick out of Tamberi (high jump gold medalist) highlights and then NFL's Myles Garrett just confirming he's a beast.

Some of them did look respectable tho
Yes too much free time 🤦🏾‍♂️

My takeaway from seeing CP3 is that it's nothing major
Not sure why he would play tho and if it was too late to send a replacement but seems weird to have him there (geared up) not participating.

I know our opponents have video guys and assistants who spend hours breaking down our plays
Plus we read n react so it's not that simple to diagnose what we are doing

Still tho, Monty as expected doing an honest, thorough job and not out there being too kool for skool. Maaaan he's going into detail sigh lol 🤐🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

I know folks get upset that we seem to be left in the dark when the guys get injured and I'm sure as I keep catching up on my timeline there's probably a tweet with Monty giving his standard answer when he doesn't really say anything specific smh lol
Is what it is at this point, we have a coach that gonna make sure he is fine fore he returns just like with Da and I don't mind other guys getting more offensive responsibility for a stretch of games 2nd half of the season

KAT did shoot well, have to give him that
Like the guys said, set shooters tend to fare well in the 3pt contest

But yea, still can't believe Cam wasn't out there
Oh well

That dunk contest was one of the worst I have ever seen.

I honestly think the NBA didn't let him participate because he doesn't have a social media presence.

For a dunk contest to be considered a success (entertaining), it must meet these three requirements in order.

1. Completed Dunks - The apex of entertainment while watching someone attempt a dunk is the point in which the ball leaves their hand(s). Everything depends on that critical split-second moment of success or failure. Watching a guy jump and get right to the point of release but pull back his attempt is effectively blue-balls for a dunk contest. Anyone who does that shit more than once should be shot out of a human t-shirt cannon.

2. Enthusiastic Participants - No one wants to see anyone be humble in a dunk contest. The whole thing is a performative ego stroke of athletic prowess. If someone isn't the showman type, best to not even apply.

3. Creativity - This simultaneously very simple, yet strangely difficult to get right for a lot of participants. Putting on a retired players jersey and trying to re-create their dunk is the antithesis of creative. The key is to combine ball and body movements, jumping positions, flight paths and concepts from things we've already seen. Anyone who attempts to replicate a Vince Carter dunk and fails should be on the receiving end of the human t-shirt cannon.
