Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
Cam Payne has played about as well in CP3's absence as you could have any right to hope for. He has been more of a facilitator, as you say, and he's upped his scoring and other stats noticeably. Pretty impressive stretch from him. Not a lot of bench guys can expand their role this seamlessly when thrust into being a starter and playing big minutes. We are basically depending on him to not lose a beat with CP3 out, and he is delivering. Great play by him. What a bargain his contract is turning out to be.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
He'd be starting on many playoff teams around the league.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
A hypothetical question: If the Suns win the title and Ayton gets the finals MVP, does he get a max contract here? What are the feelings and criteria for him to max out at this point?
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
I think he’s getting the max regardless…I think the question is whether we’re paying it or someone else is. If we win the title and Ayton wins mvp, he isn’t going anywhere.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
Ayton stepped it up in the playoffs. He has obviously gotten better each year in the regular season too. Looking forward to seeing his play in the playoffs this year.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
Maybe, even then he’s still restricted…but ya I’d assume Jones probably wouldn’t want to keep him around if he didn’t want to be here. I think we’d be willing to work a S&T with him in that case.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
To be clear, I wasn't saying that would even be likely in this highly unlikely scenario, but didn't want to ignore it.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
If the Suns win he stays, if they do not, he goes. I think it's always been this way.
Jones and Vogel gotta go.

This is unfortunately the camp I'm in too(no pun intended).

S&T for who? Isaiah Stewart? Undersized, unathletic and probably the worst starting C in the league.
Losing DA, our first and only 1. pick ever, a proven playoffs performer, high character guy and a player with limitless potential who is better and better would be insane.
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
His potential is not limitless and where he was picked doesn't matter. I hope we find a way to keep him and still have room for Cam Johnson and Booker (he is eligible for an extension in 15 months).
Re: Suns News: Week 21 (3/7 to 3/13)
When did the NBA go to a hard cap? I thought the Suns will have room, as it's not a hard cap like the NFL, but if they are on a budget and have a certain amount in Luxury tax that they as an ownership decide they won't go over, that's a self imposed cap.

Nobody said there is a hard cap. And nobody is willing to spend unlimited $$ on player salary.
