How about Ayton, Crowder, and Craig to Utah for Bojan, Clarkson, Vanderbilt and 2 of those Minny 1sts.

Then send 6 1sts to Brooklyn with Bojan, Cam J, Saric, Payne

CP3/Booker/Bridges/KD/Vanderbilt with Clarkson/Saric and whatever we sign in FA off the bench.

Hmmmm
So Sidery deleted his tweet above which said he can't see the Jazz helping facilitate KD to us
I actually didn't think that was a bad take hence me posting it but yea he deleted it quickly

Okay, so, now my KD/Ayton trade prediction is something with this bone structure:

Utah gets: re-signed Ayton
Nets get: Mikal Bridges; a couple other miscellaneous Suns wings; a fuckload of draft picks from Utah + Suns
Suns get: KD

No Bridges! Johnson if we must.

We need an Aaron Sorkin dramatization of how this all is unfolding behind the scenes. I just want to watch Moneyball 2 but just centering around Suns trading for KD.

It seems like there's a narrative out there right now about Ayton that the league has decided he's not a max player. And yeah, if nobody is offering him the max, maybe that is the simplest conclusion. But I think the situation is more nuanced than that. There are two big confounding factors: one is that Ayton is an RFA, and the other is that not many teams have max cap space.

I think if Ayton were an UFA, he probably would have gotten a max offer or something close to it. Teams just don't want to go to all the trouble of courting a player, getting a commitment, signing an offer, only to have it matched a few days later and end up with nothing. Meanwhile they miss out on all of the other potential FA targets. That is a huge obstacle. RFA guys often struggle in the open market for this reason. And that's entirely by design; it's the point of restricted free agency, to give the current team a leg up and make it more likely you can find a way to retain your own free agent.

The other factor I mentioned is that not many teams have max cap space. I think plenty of contenders or near-contenders would want Ayton if they could fit him into their cap. Why wouldn't, say, Atlanta want him? Or Dallas? Or the Clippers, or the Pelicans, or any number of other teams? But they can't afford him. It isn't that they wouldn't pay him the max, it's that they can't. There are only a few teams with max space this summer, and mostly they're awful teams. So they don't want to break the bank to get Ayton since he's a piece that is most effective if you already have 1-2 other stars on your team to work with.

Anyways I'm not saying Ayton is some MVP candidate or whatever, just that the fact that he hasn't found a max offer doesn't mean that the league has decided he sucks. It's an outcome of a particular free agency situation that is complicated.
Exactly how you are supposed to play RFA. Get Ayton signed long term for something like 4/100 and keep either Bridges or Cam Johnson. Then, you have a fantastic starting lineup and the holes are fillable.

We would mortgage our future but who needs draft picks if you are earning titles and generating so much revenue that you can spend over the tax?

Remember Ayton is a free agent. He has to want to go to Utah in order for Utah to trade for him. If they are offering him the max, he might do it. But if they aren't offering him the max, he may not want to go there.

Of course, Utah may think paying Ayton the max is a bargain, since they're used to paying Gobert more than the max!

Gambo says he's been told that Clarkson is not untouchable for the Jazz.

That Ainge contact is paying off for Gambo today haha.

Clarkson is useful in that he can create stuff. He’d be a good bench guard, but he’d drive us crazy some nights too.

Then you're going have to wait because they can't include him with another player in a trade for 60 days.

Is the trade official? Sometimes they just announce these things, but nothing official happens until free agency actually opens and they can amend it to a bigger trade.

It can’t be official yet. Trades are not allowed during the moratorium.

I think if the KD stuff falls thru, that's what we'll settle on. Hawks and John Collins played the same game.
