Game Day: Suns (8-3) @ Magic (3-9), Fri 11/11/22

A little before my time but he put up all-star double double numbers for a couple years. I think he got sick later. LL can tell us more.

Walk gets a bad rap because the Suns got him instead of Kareem (then Lew Alcindor), losing the coin flip.
Kareem said the Walk had one of the best offensive repertoires of any guy he played.
Walk had a rough rookie campaign, but four solid years after, including 20 and 12.5 one season.
He then got into a journey of the soul mood, going on a macrobiotic diet and losing about 25 pounds.
Suns traded him and he eventually lost enthusiasm for the game.
Interesting guy ... chatted with him once just before he got traded.
Told him I admired him as a player.
He thanked me, but said there was more to life than making money playing games ...
Window is open again ... blue skies ahead?

Laz, this is a great story. Love when you unearth a gem like this.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 6:17 pmWalk gets a bad rap because the Suns got him instead of Kareem (then Lew Alcindor), losing the coin flip.

Stop it.JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 4:35 pmIt's already impossible. He led us to the Finals. Not even Steve Nash did that.Charlie Smithy! wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 1:55 pmI'm starting to wonder if he already is or will end up being the most disappointing player in Phoenix Suns history, given where he was drafted as well as his innate talent/athletic ability.

DeAndre Ayton led the 2021 Suns to the Finals! Just like how Kevon Looney led the Warriors to a title last year.

Did Steph call Looney their MVP of the postseason?
"I'm a Deandre Ayton guy."--Al McCoy, September 21, 2022.

Everyone (Paul, Book, Bridges, Monty) talks up Ayton to keep him bought in. But yes, he was tremendous during the first three rounds of that playoff run. Best basketball that he has played in his career.
But Booker averaged 27 ppg during that playoff run. Ayton averaged 15 & 11. Let's stop being silly.
