One thing we should absolutely never do is iso Landry Shamet…that’s not his game at all. He can run a little pick n roll, but be absolutely needs a screen to get past his man.
I think Landry’s problem is that he lacks the explosiveness at the rim to shoot a high percentage against help with length, so even when he beats his man with the dribble he never puts his head down to go to the basket. I wish he would start doing some of the off the dribble pull ups from 18-22 feet to at least add some variance to his game. Otherwise people just defend his step back three and he’s kind of taken out of the game.
Landrys problems are all mental. He looks like a player in his first NBA game still out there, nerves running wild, playing too fast.
This is such a good way to describe him.

Evidence on why sometimes it’s important for Ayton to dunk.
Let's make Jeremy watch this Clockwork Orange style 1000 times. :P
It's easy to debunk this one, if you just analyze the two plays. In the first one, he had to pick up his dribble outside the paint so he didn't get stripped. How do you expect him to be able to dunk it from there without picking up a charge? In the second one, the defender didn't rotate as quickly and he was able to dunk it. It's called taking what the defense gives you and playing smart basketball. If he had gotten an offensive foul or turned it over people would be complaining, too.

There was no tweak by the offense, it was just a slower defender.

I think we’re being a little too harsh on Landry…he’s not worth the contract he got, but he’s fine as a 9th-10th man…it’s just we’re paying him as a 6th man. He’s not the elite shooter I was hoping, he’s pretty much just an average offensive player, but he’s been surprisingly a good defender. I think that gets overlooked.

He’s a guy we’re gonna always want to upgrade, but he’s still a playable guy.

The point is less about why he dunked vs not dunked, but more about why it’s important for him to dunk.

Oooh, Ayton catching in space and attacking off the dribble and drawing the foul…Bulls announcers are baffled at why there was even talk of not bringing Ayton back. There wouldn’t have been if this was how Ayton always played. This is a max level player tonight.
I love how no one pays attention to the Suns, but once Ayton has a dominant game and the Sports Center highlights go out, everyone labels him a stud.

Anyone following this team on a consistent basis would understand why someone wouldn't want to keep Ayton on a max deal.

Games like this is what I wanted the Suns to become. Devon playing at an MVP level, Ayton playing like a clear number two. I love this streak of games by Ayton, but I am also not getting fooled again. I've seen this movie before. Just ends in disappointment.

Big thank you to Pat Beverley for waking DominAYTON from his hibernation.

Shamet is the worst acquisition, especially for what we paid him before he even stepped on the court for us. He's never going to be the reason off the bench any given night of the season, not one game, that we win. He's such a zero for us.
And people who are looking for more of him are dreaming. His per 36 minutes numbers are pretty consistent with last year and the rest of his career.

He is what he is. He should be 4th or 5th guard, and out of the rotation when the playoffs come. And that's not enough for $10 million a year.
Yeah, Shamet is a 5th guard, minimum salary vet. Jones just decided to give up a 1st rounder and pay him $10 million a year. Oops.

Ooh, you just gave me the appropriate nickname for DA when he is sleepwalking through games not having enough impact. Hibernayton!

Agreed. Who was it that was keeping count of max Ayton games and role player Ayton games in their sig? Haven’t seen that in a while.
