I wondered why he was missing at the ROH ceremony. I was going to ask if he was in bad health. :(

Walter Davis feels a little like a forgotten Sun…yet he’s the all time leading scorer. He played before I was born and he basically spanned the time between the suns first two finals appearances. Not to mention a drug scandal…just feels like a forgotten time. At least for someone who was not alive for it. My first memories are the KJ/Hornacek team and the Barkley trade. I remember everything after that and when I think about the times before, it’s usually Paul Westphal(helps that he coached here), Alvin Adams, and Van Arsdale…or Connie Hawkins.

This is me saying that for some reason Walter Davis doesn’t feel like a suns player to me and I should go back and learn about his time here. I’m sad to hear of his passing and hope that his loved ones can be comforted in this time. Hopefully he got to see the ROH ceremony before he passed.

Walter Davis, Sweet D, wasn't forgotten for me. He became a rookie during my early years of Suns fandom. His beautiful jump shot is etched in my memories. He was so graceful on the court. Definitely up there in my favorite players list. RIP and my condolences to his family.

Did he even have a representative? Hopefully, he at least saw the ceremony and/or knew that he was being honored again.

No, he didn't have a representative there. They just announced his name like he would be walking out, but he didn't. Hopefully he was able to receive one of the special watches they gave out.

Yeah, you can see it in the tweet above. Hopefully, it wasn't in the mail.

This one is especially tough. Paul Westphal and Walter Davis WERE Suns basketball to me as a kid. Along with Alvan Adams they were the backbone of the team in the late 70's.

Davis played with such enthusiasm and joy that we were all shocked when his drug problems came to light.

It was terribly sad the way his tenure with the Suns ended, but fortunately there was a mending of fences, much like with the Suns and Westphal and Barkley, who also left with bad feelings.

If you asked most people who grew up in the 70's who the most beloved Sun was it was easily Davis. R.I.P. Walter.
