Thought last week that the Mavs trade should've been a fireable offense. Why trade PJ Washington of all the players on the roster? And why take back Grant Williams? Kupchak lived off the Lakers success and didn't do anything of note in Charlotte.

The Hornets are almost criminally mismanaged. They're one of the league's worst teams, have been for years, and don't have many assets to build on. They consistently make zany trades that don't help them or make them better or give them a setup for the future.

As armchair GM, I would've traded Bridges to the Ws (assuming he'd waive the no-trade clause) for CP. Start trimming the fat out of the org, bring CP home to Carolina, set the culture and have him mentor Ball and Miller. Then, let him slide into to head coaching spot in a year or a two. Or maybe even next season if he's going to retire. Would've been a bold move this season but could've paid dividends.

They would’ve had to send a lot more salary to get CP3…I think Charlotte is finally doing what they need to. They traded Rozier, Hayward, and PJ for picks. They are set up to build around Ball/Miller and maybe Bridges? They also have Mark Williams who is nice. Drafting Miller looks like a major win. If Ball can ever stay healthy they really have a great 1-2 punch to build around. I don’t think they are too far away

It seems like Charlotte had enough talent to be competitive, but it hasn't worked out that way. They better hope that their next GM can draft well and put together a competent team at some point. It would be frustrating to be a Hornets fan.

It’s kinda weird he wasn’t just sent to Memphis in the trade. They cut Chimezie and Brooklyn cut Goodwin…why weren’t those 2 just flipped?

Williams makes an indirect point about his time in Dallas:

I get it, people don’t like playing with Luka, but Grant chose to go there…he should’ve known. He’s also a role player and a punk and I don’t feel sorry for him.

I think the Hornets were somewhat forced to wait to make these moves due to their recent change in ownership. They had a talented roster to start the season, so I can see why the new ownership group wanted to see how things would play out in the first half of the season. It's just unfortunate that injuries again derailed any hope of collective progression.
I don't have an issue with the deals they made in the past month. They acquired two first round picks in 2027, a young prospect in Tre Mann and two solid veterans in Williams and Micic. If they can stay healthy, they're not far away from a solid rotation next season.

He's going to be really scary when he finally settles down and it'll be interesting to see how many more seasons that'll take.
