Game Day: Clippers (50-28) @ Suns (46-32), Tues 4/9/24

Post by Superbone »

Time: 7:00 pm AZ (7:00 pm PT/10:00 pm ET)
Place: Footprint Center, Phoenix, AZ
TV: AZ Family 3TV, NBALP

Every game is important to try and avoid the play-in tournament. We have to protect our home court. The Clippers won’t be easy to take down however. They are coming off three wins in a row. Leonard has been out during the run. Nurk is questionable.

You would think we definitely need at least one of the games against the Clippers to avoid the play-in. Might as well win this one because I think they’ll be tougher on the second leg of a B2B as I trust them to make better adjustments than us.

Should be a win…the game doesn’t matter a whole lot to the Clippers…they are pretty well entrenched as the 4 seed as they have a 2 game lead on Dallas with the tiebreaker as well.

Teams that are “pretty well entrenched” are often eager to clinch. Magic number 2, games to go 4.

It’s possible…but they are without Kawhi and they have two easier games coming after their doubleheader with us. They may not feel any urgency whereas we definitely should. Our magic number is 4 with 4 to play.

If we can't beat the Clips with Kawhi sitting out, we have no business expecting a good playoff run. That loss to the Pels was pretty forgivable but this one we really need to win.

In the 2024 draft thread we're talking about Edey and what kind of NBA pro he'll be. I think Zubac on the Clips is a decent comparison. And Zubac hasn't been an all-star but has had a solid career and would be a very successful late-1st-round pick.

That's not a bad comparison. Zubac has been very good. If you added 4 inches on him, he would be even tougher to deal with.

Why do the Suns have problems with teams when they are minus one of their best players?

Edey moves at half the speed of Zubac and with much less mobility.

He’s also more skilled than Zubac to be fair

You really think so? I really only saw Edey's game for the first time yesterday. Didn't see much finesse around the hoop.

I haven’t watched him much either, I just have never gotten the feeling that Zubac is very skilled

Zubac seems pretty solid to me. He doesn't miss bunnies around the hoop.

Certainly…but more what I meant is that he basically only takes those bunnies at the rim. He’s not self creating shots, he’s not making plays out of the short roll. He’s finishing off passes on the roll, dump offs, and offensive rebounds.

Zubac averages 1.3 post touches a game…same as Jamal Murray and just barely above Rudy Gobert

I agree but you think Edey can do more than that?

I think he will be significantly better as a post scorer…I’m not sure if he’ll be able to make plays out of the short roll or dribble at all. Hasn’t shown a jump shot either.

Suns tend to lose games they are supposed to win against teams missing players.

I don't count this as a game that we are "supposed to win." Clippers are a very good team with or without Leonard.
