2014 FIBA World Cup

Post by Ring_Wanted »

Already three days into the torunament, and five teams remain undefeated.

Spain, who just won against Brazil in a pretty convincing way, with many players at a high level and apparently with fresher legs than expected from the likes of Navarro. Pau Gasol looking ten years younger.

USA, where among other things Faried's motor is leaving many in awe, Kyrie showing his considerable ability, Anthony Davis letting people know what's coming next, Rose's comeback, etc. Cousins and Klay proving they belong.

Greece, Slovenia and Lithuania are also 3-0, riding the likes of Prinzetis, Bourousis, the Freak, Dragic brothers, Balazic, Valanciunas, Motiejunas, etc.

Bodgan Bodganovic is holding his own for Serbia and looking smooth, although his %s are not great at 48-31-50.

By the way, have you seen Senegal? They beat Coratia after defeating Puerto Rico. Gorgui Dieng is balling to the tune of 22-12 (55%FG, 75%FT).

And free agent 6'11 Andray Blatche, (allegedly) former headcase, is leading Filipinas with 21-14 (modest FG% of 44, but solid 80%FT and 33%3pt). There were rumors that he is getting paid $20M to play for them.

FIBA's group B is the group of death: Argentina, Greece, PHilippines, Croatia, Senegal, Puerto rico

Senegal was supposed to be the laughing stock, but has already won twice. ARgentina and Croatia almost lost to the philippines.

They don't look half bad on paper, and are quite versatile. Dieng-Pekovic plus Thad is a more than decent frontcourt rotation, and the SF-SG-PG is also well covered, although a number of players have severe limitations. I can't wait to see how they fare.

I think a lot of the experts are going to be predicting them to be one of the worst teams in the West, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a Suns like bump in their actual record. Most of this is going to come down to Rubio staying healthy, but if he does, they have the pieces around them to take advantage of this strengths.

Good win by the Aussies over Lithuania - we got up big in the first half and then held on in the 2nd.
I've always wondered why Joe Ingles (6'7'' lefty guard/forward) hasn't been able to land somewhere in the NBA. He's not super fast but can shoot it and has great court vision.

I've read there are as many as 7 teams interested in him right now. The 76ers is the one team that was reported by the media, probably because Brett Brown is their coach and he used to coach the national team.
Go Suns!

That makes sense. I'd like the Suns to take a flyer on him (for obvious reasons), although he doesn't really solve any of our issues.

It's funny to still see Daniel Santiago plugging away in the Worlds.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw him play against the US. Was really surprised to see him still playing, brought back some memories.

Everybody gives Slovenia trouble. They are extremely soft and have almost no big man rotation.

Slovenia hasn't scored in the 4th quarter yet (almost 8 minutes). Tied up with Lithuania at 62 with 2 minutes to go on ESPN3.

Seriously? You're not going to say who won after all that?
