I'm surprised how on the money Dave King was last night when he suggested that this looks an awful lot like 2013 when Hunter took over. If Watson is in position to take over after Hornacek is fired then it will be eerily similar. Neither scenario is appealing to me though I don't think a guy like Thibs would be interested in stepping in mid-season. Karl did take over the Kings in the middle of the year last year, but it doesn't happen often.

I was thinking the same thing this morning about Hunter taking over midseason. There are echoes of that here but the circumstances are different. Gentry wasn't Blanks' "guy" and there were rumblings of some dissension in the coaching staff with Hunter from the beginning of the year. Gentry was pretty much set up to fail. I don't think that's the case here, with Hornacek or Watson.

Its Earl Watsons time to shine. He'll probably be our next coach, albeit on an interim basis.
👀 Fire Frank Vogel.

Zach's take on everything resembles a lot of what is posted on here. At least he gets it. Hadn't heard about Bledsoe and Knight butting heads before. I know this happens on just about every other team but it feel like there has been absurd amount of internal strife between teammates or players and coaches or players and management here in Phoenix over the past few years. What. A. Mess.

There's an insider report by Kevin Pelton on the Suns too. He blames everything on the fact that we did too well in Hornacek's first season. He ends with this...
Where now for Phoenix?
Changing coaches is unlikely to solve the Suns' problems. Hornacek wasn't able to get the most out of his talent as he did in 2013-14 and struggled to control the emotions of the Morris twins. But he was done no favors by McDonough, who overcrowded the roster with point guards last season and extended the Morris twins despite knowing their volatile personalities.

Ultimately, Phoenix's uncertain future probably owes most to ownership. Since losing Bryan Colangelo to the Toronto Raptors a decade ago, Suns chairman Robert Sarver has cycled through a series of decision-makers in the front office: Mike D'Antoni, Steve Kerr, Lance Blanks and now McDonough. Before McDonough's arrival, the admittedly impatient Sarver resisted the idea of rebuilding. Getting so close to the playoffs in 2013-14 meant abandoning the slower process of adding young talent to the roster McDonough intended to pursue. As he explained to Zach Lowe over the summer, McDonough attempted to win now without sacrificing the future. By trying to achieve two competing goals, Phoenix was successful in neither one.

Alas, the Suns might not have a choice about winning the rest of the season. With Bledsoe expected out until the All-Star break, Phoenix will have a tough time staying in the race for the eighth seed in the Western Conference despite how weak the competition looks.

ESPN's real plus-minus rates Bledsoe the Suns' best player at 4.2 points per 100 possessions better than league averages. His likely replacements -- Booker (minus-3.0), Goodwin (minus-2.7), Ronnie Price (minus-0.3) and Sonny Weems (minus-2.4) all rate worse than league average, most dramatically so. The drop-off could take Phoenix from a slightly below-average team with rough luck in close games (the Suns have been outscored by just 1.7 points per game, ninth in the West) to near the bottom of the conference for the next few weeks.

So ready or not, Phoenix may be testing its luck in the lottery -- two years behind schedule.

Here's another. How the Suns went from NBA's darlings to a dysfunctional mess in less than 3 years: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/12/28/ ... acek-fired

I just don't understand how they can praise Hornacek. He has looked lost out there this season. Hell last season the excuse was he didn't have any locker room vets. Last year was just as bad. He seemed to have almost no control of the guys. They just happened to win a bit more.

His first year he was saved by a Bledsoe injury and a career year for Dragic.

Every time I see him on the side lines when we are getting crushed it looks like he has a "I told you so" look on his face. Like he is exasperated that the guys aren't doing what he told them too and this is what comes from it.

The offensive and defensive failings of this team doesn't end with the assistant coaches. It is the head coaches fault.

I love Hornacek as a player for the Suns but I feel sorry for the fans of the team that ends up hiring him after this year. Hopefully it won't be us.

The front office has stocked the roster with promising young players. Booker is spitting flames from deep, Warren is a floater artist, and Alex Len should grow into a solid starting center. The Suns swiped two first-round draft picks from Miami, including an unprotected 2021 pick, for Goran Dragic on an expiring contract, even though other teams chasing Dragic got the impression he had already worked out a deal to sign in Miami. (Heat officials have denied that, and the league has said it received no formal complaints).

They'll have cap space galore, and an interesting cache of trade assets. That cap space won't be worth as much when almost every team has it, and they can't quite compete with Boston and Philly in the trade-for-a-star market.
Thats from Lowe's article and why I think if the Front office commits to a rebuild we've already have pieces in place. 3 good young solid players, draft picks, and cap space with spare parts that will net us more fro other teams. But they have to commit to it.

Agreed. The local radio guys today are a bunch of Horny apologetics as well. Saying it's the players fault and Jeff is a legend. Blah. He has no offensive system, no eye for talent, horrible rotations, and we all know how he is with discipline and drawing up plays out of timeouts.

Ben Simmons aside, I really like Brandon Ingram as well. He's Durant-like (or Durant-lite).
