I don't think the Lakers bailed on him. They signed him to a 2 year deal at 1.5 mil each with a player option, which Davis exercised in order to get a pay raise. That's how I remembered it to be anyway. If the Lakers actually let him go coz they thought he wasn't playing up to that 1.5 mil contract, then something is really wrong with that front office...

You are right, but I guess my point would be that they didn't try to retain him.

Ah gotcha. I guess maybe they thought between Randle, Bass, and getting Hibbert for a second rounder they didn't want to throw more money towards Ed Davis. I looked up their salary situation a few days ago, by this summer they will have 26 mil in guaranteed contract against a cap of 89 to 93 mil, so they are probably thinking they can grab both Durant and Howard or something.
