Russia Says It's on the Brink of Robot Warfare
Then again, Russia says a lot of things.

https://www.popularmechanics.com/techno ... t-warfare/

A new report out of Russia's military research center suggests the Kremlin is close to realizing an army of Terminator-like robot soldiers that could soon replace humans in battle.

"Living fighters will gradually begin to be replaced by their robotic 'brothers' who can act faster, more accurately and more selectively than people," Vitaly Davydov told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti on April 21, according to a Forbes report. Davydov is the deputy director of the Advanced Research Foundation, which is Russia's version of the U.S. Defensed Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)

Russia is completely paranoid about the US military and spends a lot of time bragging about how superior their military is to the US, which sounds like an inferior complex to me. Robots are definitely the future of warfare but, I doubt Russia is as far along as they suggest.

Not military hardware but hardware. Three different countries are launching missions to Mars separately this weeK.

Look out, Mars: Here we come with a fleet of spacecraft

Three countries — the United States, China and the United Arab Emirates — are sending unmanned spacecraft to the red planet in quick succession beginning this week, in the most sweeping effort yet to seek signs of ancient microscopic life while scouting out the place for future astronauts.

We made fun of Trumps Space Force but, space is becoming militarized. It won’t be guys in space ships shooting at other guys in space ships. For the foreseeable future it will be satellites shooting down other satellites. Our military is very dependent on satellites. At the outbreak of war satellites will be big time targets.

I didn’t think Mars had enough of an atmosphere for that.

That UI is what might be used in fighter drones. They are talking about fighter drones as wingmen for manned fighters and they are talking about the UI being in the cockpit as R2D2.

Under Skyborg program, F-35 and F-15EX jets could control drone sidekicks
https://www.defensenews.com/air/2019/05 ... sidekicks/

In March, he characterized Skyborg as an artificial intelligence wingman that would train and learn alongside pilots, or possibly be incorporated into a manned fighter cockpit to act as an assistant to the pilot like R2-D2 in the “Star Wars” films.

XQ-58A Valkyrie fighter drone

XQ-58A Valkyrie is a high subsonic, long-range strike unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) being developed by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

The low-cost unmanned combat aerial vehicle is designed for deployment in surveillance, reconnaissance and long-range combat missions to deliver maximum operational flexibility and utility to the warfighter. It is intended to serve as an unmanned escort or wingman aircraft to a manned fighter aircraft in warfare.

Aren’t you glad you came back to Phoenix in time for the hottest summer on record Indy!? We set the record for days over 110 about two weeks ago and it’s been over 110 almost every day since.

Yep! And most days with a low over 90. I think we already beat that by 30-40%.

At least it is cool inside (but with a $500 electric bill...)

We developed Patriot missiles that have been shown they can take out incoming missiles. They are super expensive and not easily set up. They just developed a projectile fired from howitzers, deck guns or even tanks capable of taking out incoming cruise missiles.

A U.S. Army M109 Paladin-based 155mm howitzer and a U.S. Navy deck gun fired Hypervelocity Projectiles (HVP), successfully downing BQM-167 target drones acting as stand-ins for cruise missiles, demonstrating the ability of the Mach-5 capable guided artillery shells to take out cruise missiles.
https://americanmilitarynews.com/2020/0 ... e-cannons/

Okinawa, Japan, or Guam have Patriot air-defense missiles and longer-range Terminal High-Altitude Area-Defense (THAAD) systems, capable of taking down some ballistic and cruise missiles. Firing those missiles, however, can come at a cost of about $5 million per patriot missile and about $12 million per THAAD missile. By contrast, the HPV shells could come at an estimated cost of about $86,000 per shell, driving down the cost for weapons capable of destroying incoming missiles.

Dr. William Roper, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics, described the artillery tests as an awesome development.

“Tanks shooting down cruise missiles is awesome—video-game, sci-fi awesome,” Roper said.

NASA is launching a 4G phone network on the moon
https://www.cnet.com/news/nasa-is-launc ... -the-moon/
It's one small step for phones, one giant leap for phonekind: NASA and Nokia are planning the first cellular network on the moon.

Finnish phone company Nokia has announced it's working with the US space administration to build a 4G LTE network for moonwalkers by late 2022. As well as voice communication and data transmission, the mobile network could power navigation, stream biometric data so controllers can keep an eye on
each astronaut's health and fitness, and direct remote-control robots and sensors on the lunar surface.

It's a part of NASA's Artemis program, intended to establish a sustainable base on the lunar surface by 2028.

The low power part will be interesting. I am guessing it won't need many switches because the number of devices connecting to it won't be more than a few dozen at a time, but still.
