A lot of people say that… on Twitter. After what I've learned of Elon Musk, I will never buy one of his vehicles.
Tesla
Re: Tesla
It is a funny irony to complain about Elon Musk on Twitter. But there's a difference between using a free social media service, used by billions, which long predates Elon, and actively choosing to spend tens of thousands of dollars to buy a Tesla car (and presumably come back to the Tesla dealer for service at additional cost) which goes straight into Elon's pockets.
Re: Tesla
I bought a car I like a lot from a company owned by a person I don’t like. You use Twitter because you like it and it is owned by the same guy. You say it’s different because Twitter has been around longer and is used by a lot of people. That excuse rings real hollow with me. Lots of people have left Twitter including a lot of advertisers. You use it because everyone else does and aren’t willing to give it up. You could send him the same message his advertisers did and not use it but, you won’t. I am good with that. I bought his car.
Maybe my next car will be some thing else. I can’t buy a GM car. I have officially ruled them off the list because of their customer service I have dealt with extensively and became infuriated with. Tesla’s customer service is pretty well known as being awful. So far I haven’t had any issues other than a cracked windshield.

Re: Tesla
Absolutely loving our 2023 Model Y. Wife and I despise Musk. I keep quitting and coming back to Twitter. I directly reply to and trash Musk on the regular.
Point being, there are plenty of folks at the top of all auto manufacturers that are shit. They just aren't loud mouthed and on social media, etc. Doesn't change the fact that our Y has been amazing. We've driven from AZ to Missouri and back twice to visit my mother in law. We just took it to Yachats Oregon (coast) for a full month and back. It's a fantastic vehicle. So much space. Fast AF.

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

If you don't buy things or shop at places where the product otherwise brings benefit or happiness to YOU because the views of the owner became public and don't match your principles, the joke is on YOU entirely.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 8:26 pmIt is a funny irony to complain about Elon Musk on Twitter. It's different if it's a small business. But to not shop at Tesla or use Twitter to your own benefit, or to boycott Target because you hate transgenders, only hurts you. None of these companies will miss you and you're making zero impact on their outlook. It's fake outrage.
Re: Tesla
Some people like the thought of EV’s but are scared of running out of juice and being stranded somewhere. I owned a Volt, which ran on electricity for awhile and then kicked over to the gas engine that powered the electric motors when the juice was gone. Now they have come up with Extended Range electric vehicles. They run on electricity and when the juice gets low a gas engine powers up and charges the battery while you are driving extending the range to 700 miles. That’s a lot of driving. I look at this like I do music playing platforms. 33 1/3, 45’s, Cassettes, 8 Track, CD’s and then MP3’s. Each one was just the next thing until the next better thing came along. EREV’s will make some people feel better about buying an EV but, I think they will be a small blip on the historical radar.
What are EREVs (Extended-Range Electric Vehicles)?
https://energytheory.com/what-are-erevs ... -vehicles/
An EREV, or Extended-range Electric Vehicle, is a type of electric vehicle that offers a unique functionality compared to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). While both EREVs and PHEVs are equipped with electric motors and batteries, they operate differently. In EREVs (Extended-range electric vehicles), the combustion engine functions solely as a generator and doesn’t directly drive the vehicles. This allows for a substantial electric-only driving range, often comparable to PHEVs. When the battery’s charge is low, users can either activate the generator or opt for a quick DC charge.
New Breed of EV Promises 700 Miles per Charge (Just Add Gas)
It runs on batteries 95% of the time, but a gasoline engine can recharge them for longer hauls, easing range anxiety.

But the product doesn't bring me joy or happiness; I don't need a Tesla. There are other perfectly nice electric cars. I can easily just buy one of those if I want to. Twitter/X, that product does bring me something meaningful, and I can use it without giving money to Musk, so I still use it.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 9:10 amIf you don't buy things or shop at places where the product otherwise brings benefit or happiness to YOU because the views of the owner became public and don't match your principles, the joke is on YOU entirely.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 8:26 pmIt is a funny irony to complain about Elon Musk on Twitter. Also, I don't think I am bankrupting the company nor that they'll ever notice my absence. But in aggregate if a lot of folks refuse to buy Teslas, it could start to matter to them. Lastly I don't agree with your description of "fake outrage"; I am not outraged and it isn't fake. I calmly and genuinely choose to do what I do. I don't do it to stick it to the man, I just don't want to buy an expensive product that will make me think about having supported a guy I don't like every time I step into it. That would make me unhappy. Are you arguing that I should buy a Tesla even though it will make me unhappy? I don't see what sense that makes.

Re: Tesla
Elon just said the quiet part out loud and you're displaying selective outrage imo
So you would never buy a Ford then?
You'd never wear Hugo Boss who outfitted the Nazis?
You don't eat at Chick Fil A?
I'm sure I could dig up dirt on almost every large corporation.
You'll be living a naked life on a farm if you want to be consistent and not selective

Thanks! It's on Netflix. I found his rant about it to be funny and on point with today's society.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 10:25 amYou make some good points. To be clear I hate Elon. He's a genius but he's an awful being. But it wouldn't stop me from buying a Tesla power wall if it ever gets to a point where it would financially benefit me. I still eat at Chick Fil A and my kid has Tommy Hilfiger school uniforms even though Tommy's racist ass said he wouldn't have made the clothes if he knew minorities would've embraced it like they did
Re: Tesla
I agree that it's hard to be completely morally clean and pure because you'd have to boycott a lot of companies and services. But most of the examples you gave involve people who are dead or no longer with the company; Ford being anti-semitic or Hugo Boss outfitting Nazis happened almost a century ago. Completely different people own and run these companies now. I probably wouldn't boycott Tesla in 2124.
But Elon is doing and saying things I strongly disagree with, right now, every day. So no, I am not going to buy one of his cars. And you mentioned Chik Fil-A. I also refuse to eat there, because they as a company, right now, are doing things that I do not agree with. I don't want to make this thread into a politics thread so I won't even go into details, but those are two companies I choose not to do business with. There are plenty of other car companies, and plenty of other fast food restaurants.
I don't think I am displaying "selective outrage." You tell me something horrible about the head of another company, that is happening right now, and I'll probably do whatever I can to stop doing business with them. Maybe almost no company is 100% clean and virtuous, but again I will give precedence to avoiding companies who are doing active harm or badness today (not 30 or 100 years ago) and things that strongly conflict with my own values.
