Spam

Post by Superbone »

I'm tired of cleaning up all the spam in General. There are no measures in place to prevent first time posters from creating new threads in the General forum. While I do get notifications to approve posts from new users in the main forum.

I’m getting tired of reporting it. Does that actually help? Should I continue to bother?

I wouldn’t bother. I don’t see the warning until I get here and when I’m here I see the spam. They happen every day to two days. I’m just getting tired of there being no measures in place to prevent them in the first place. First time posters shouldn’t be allowed to post new threads. They can’t in Main from what I can tell. At least I get notifications there so I can ban them and disallow them before they ever see the light of day.

Seems like it. Nothing I have access to though.

So I just looked over the board settings in detail. It looks like there may have been some permission settings that were set on the main Suns/NBA area but not on General. I just changed it to sync them up. Let's watch in the coming days to see if the spam volume decreases. One reason I haven't taken faster action on this is that I don't often look at the General area, so I haven't been seeing the problem as often. Hopefully the new settings will help. I also updated our new-user registration captcha library to a newer version, which might stop some spambots from being able to get past it.

Thanks to Bone and the mods for all the work of deleting the spam threads. I know it's a chore; I appreciate the work you do to make this board better.

Hey, you fixed it! I got the same notification for General that I used to only get for the Suns forum. I was able to ban and disallow General spam before it hit the board.

Seems like the new settings did the trick. Sorry to put you out of a job, Bone. Now that you don't need to work full-time to squish spam bots, I can replace you with the same ChatGPT AI bot that the Suns use for their current entire medical staff.

I did a cool gig last night and decided to spam it here because Superbone might get a kick out of it.

Nice. Big group with lots of horns and strings. Somebody had some money. :D

Dude, if it’s from you, it’s not spam. You could have put it in the fun stuff thread.
