The Buzzsaw That Is The Arizona Cardinals

Post by Dan H »

(See here: http://deadspin.com/5129398/the-buzzsaw ... dinals-faq)

I have a great feeling about this year. Tons of weapons and speed on offense, and the defense should be solid once more. If Washington had been able to control himself we'd be a top-5 D.

I think one of either Seattle or San Fran slides a bit this year and the Cards move up into the playoffs. After that, who knows what can happen.

I think Seattle is still the class of the division, but SF, on the other hand, looks vulnerable to me.

The Cards have playoff potential based on their roster, but it call all go to South fast if Palmer has a long-term injury.

The only thing about Seattle is that they've lost a bit of talent, there's the Super Bowl hangover to contend with, and at some point guys are going to start grousing about money. I think they'll still be good but more along the lines of a 10- or 11-win team.

Are you thinking the Cards are a 10-11 win team too Dan?

I do, yes. I think the defense might take a slight step back due to the loss of Dansby and Washington, but they're adding Acho and Okafor back to rush along with Abraham and Campbell, and the secondary is much deeper.

And let's not even talk about how much better the offensive line looks with a legit LT . . .

I don't think they'll win more than 1 or 2 games more than last year, but they'll still be world's better.

I hope you are right. I root for them but don't follow too closely. I've never had much faith in then being consistently good so back to back 10 win seasons would be a great start.

We shouldn't underestimate St. Louis this year.

Their defense is going to be excellent, and I think they're only a healthy and competent season from Sam Bradford away from playoff contention.

Welp, with Dockett out the Cards are pretty much toast as far as making the playoffs is concerned.

so, Brett Kiesel to replace Dockett (or depth since Rucker seems to be the new starter)... maybe Adam Carriker ?

Great leadership, but he's been outplayed by Rucker in preseason and camp by all accounts. Tough one.

they signed Isaac Sopaoga and Ryan McBean today to fill in for Dockett... probably only 1 of them makes the team though, my guess is McBean (younger, better pass rusher than Sopaoga)

Nice comeback win, but I'm not feeling unqualified love, yet.
Rivers had a crapload of dropped balls; he should sue his receivers for lack of support.
And Ellington illustrates the problem with smallish backs; there's always some big grizzly bear of an interior lineman going to rip the ball out of his hands in close quarters.
Window is open again ... blue skies ahead?

Larry Foote looked fantastic, Tommy Kelly, for only being w/ the team for a few weeks looks solid.

amazing to me though that Fitz only got thrown at 3 times total (and 2 were out of bounds throws), that said Floyd and Brown looked fantastic

the other oddity, no sacks, and barely and QB hits on Rivers... we need a true pass rusher

The Cardinals have their own domestic violence scandal. Nice to see them keeping up with the rest of the league.

Down by a point to the Niners with 9 to go in the 3rd Quarter . . . can the Cards go 3-0 without Palmer????
