This doesn't really go here, but I didn't want to make a new thread. It looks like they found errors in the 2020 census.

What's the new state going to be called? ;)

I wish. If the Dems would grant statehood to DC and PR, we'd have you guys by the cajones for decades. But they don't have the cajones themselves to do it.

It is less about getting another party over a barrel, and more about screwing millions and millions of Americans out of equal representation in the House and Senate. It is the opposite of what we say our country stands for, and we just keep doing it over and over because the people we are talking about are not white.

They just have to find where those missing numbers came from, and then there could be a cascading effect where it changes who is running these states too. It may rewrite the seats in the House of Representatives again, possibly in the favor of the Dems.

Yeah, that's absolutely right. Equal representation is the reason for it. A nice side effect is that it harms Republicans, but that is not the reason for wanting these states.

Well, hopefully we could agree that the goal of the Census is to get as accurate as possible of a count of who resides in the USA. And that if there are inaccuracies that are found, they should be corrected to the best of our ability. And that we should do so regardless of whether it helps or harms any particular political party.

Anybody paying attention to these Brown Jackson SCOTUS nomination hearings going on this week? Any thoughts?

My take is that it's typical partisan BS. The Republicans get up there and accuse KBJ of being a pedo protector and socialist and whatever else, along with trying to relitigate the Kavanaugh hearing. Several of them are clearly angling to get a nice tight clip of an attack that will go viral or get played on Fox News. Then the Dems get up there and say schmaltzy softball crap like, "As a mother and a daughter, how do you feel today?" and, "I hear your daughter wrote a nice letter. What does that say about our country?"

Not a lot of substance. They all know it just comes down to a party-line vote, and she'll get in. I do think she's qualified, but the hearing is just a bunch of fluff. I'm sure there are actual substantive questions they could ask, but I guess they have other plans.

Just assumed it would be a partisan fight where they accuse her of being the anti-Christ. I am just going to wait for the outcome.

I just assumed they would accuse her of liking pineapple on pizza. Can you imagine? The horror.

That’s not one of the scenarios I envisioned.

You should have. This should be a mandatory question for the highest court in the land.

Just say no, In2. Pineapple on pizza is not part of the natural world order. It should be abolished.

I'm saying...it's a game breaker. A 'Yes' or 'No' vote hangs in the balance. It's a question of character and decision making ability. Far more insightful than asking about why a shorter sentence was given to pedophilias than recommended by the Congressional board or why she would refer to Bush and Rumsfeld as war criminals in legal briefings.

Today Sen. Cruz is asking her if she agrees with Critical Race Theory and that babies are racist and other things. He is also explaining to her what Martin Luther King stood for.

I think this is right. The anti-abortion folks in the GOP want to make abortion a criminal offense akin to murder.

I believe Bush started that war based on bs he knew was bs and hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives as a result. Putin has been busy making up bs reasons to invade Ukraine too and thousands have already died.

On Tuesday, during her Senate confirmation hearing Jackson pushed back on the claim that she is soft on child porn charges, citing Congress’s own language. “That statute doesn’t say ‘look only at the guidelines and stop.’ The statute doesn’t say ‘impose the highest possible penalty for this sickening and egregious crime,’ Jackson said. “The statute says to calculate the guidelines, but also look at various aspects of this offense and impose a sentence that is ‘sufficient but not greater than is necessary to promote the purposes of punishment.'”

For example, in 2013 as a federal district court judge, Jackson gave a much lighter sentence to an 18-year-old offender who was was deemed to not be a threat to children but had shared two dozen videos of underage teens with an FBI agent, than she did for an older man who sent nude pictures of his 10-year-old and over 100 child porn videos to an agent. Both are crimes, and Jackson sentenced both men, but did so with varying levels of severity to match the varying severity of each crime. (Current sentencing guidelines for child porn sharing have been bipartisanly criticized as draconian.)

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/599 ... ornography
She explained that unwarranted sentencing disparities in child pornography cases is something the U.S. Sentencing Commission “has been focused on for long time.”

“All of the offenses are horrible, all of the offenses are egregious but the guidelines … are being departed from even with respect to the government’s recommendation,” she said.

She noted that federal prosecutors asked for a sentence well below what the guidelines recommended for the defendant. She argued this shows “the guidelines in this area are not doing the work of differentiating defendants.”

This "kiddie porn" angle on KBJ is so silly. She gave smaller sentences to a few child porn cases because they were literally a just-turned-18-year-old boy who had pictures of women who were close to his own age but under 18. If he's 17 years and 364 days old and his girlfriend is 17 or 16 that isn't a crime, but the day he turns 18 he has to be hauled away for 5-8 years? That's silly. But an old man with pictures of nude little kids, that's way more serious. Of course she considered two cases like that to be different.

The GOP is just searching for something to attack her for, and there isn't much "there" there. I like how they accuse her of being a pedo buddy and CRT radical while also saying that they won't put her through all the character attacking that poor Kavanaugh faced. Okay.
