Florida school shooting

Post by Mori Chu »

Will this be the catalyst that finally gets people to talk about common sense gun control laws? Or will we just move on and wait a week until the next one?

That question is asked every time there's a mass shooting. Nothing ever happens. There's no reason to believe this time will be any different.

Pretty sure nothing's gonna happen ... if the shooter was Muslim I guess we would see travel bans or something ...

That said I heard on the radio the other day that Finland and Switzerland have very little gun control as well, yet mass shootings hardly ever happen over there.
Reason for that would be cultural (hunting tradition in Finland, mandatory army time for everybody in Switzerland) and it also could be linked to the very low unemployment rates...

I'm pretty sure nothing will be done in the short term because nothing ever has been done before. But I think this could be the start of a turning point. The kids from Parkland are speaking out and it'll take their voices and energy to make the change in the future.

The hypocrisy is astounding tho from the right. And no other country has this problem.

It doesn’t matter how many are killed. Any attempt to regulate guns is taken as an attempt to take away their guns and steal their 2nd Amendment rights.

A lot of people on the right seem to believe these mass shootings are all orchestrated by the left to create an excuse to do just that.

Nah. Everybody should have an automatic weapon and carry it at all times. Whenever something happens you don't like, you just shoot the person or group that did it. When in doubt, shoot.

The kids are marching at the capitol building today. The state senate just today voted to declare porn a health hazard, but also voted down an attempt to curb assault weapons. The students are pissed.

Glad to see the youth mobilizing. In the past, this would've been another non-story but the kids aren't letting that happen. Hold the pols accountable.

What's disgusting to me is that this has become another hyperpartisan issue, to where opponents of gun control are saying these kids are actors, are being coached and fed lines by their parents, democrats, etc and this is one big master plan to take away guns. I don't know how we got here or how we solve this. No matter which side you're on, no matter what your opinion is, there's no sane reason to attack children with whacked out conspiracy theories. But that's where we are.

Certain politicians have caused so much distrust in everything that nobody believes anything that anybody says. We have a serial lying President who attacks all of our institutions while praising Russia. Putin couldn’t be happier.

Neither side is innocent but a certain side has gone overboard with their insane deep state conspiracy theories.

Porn is bad and we have to do something right away or else kids might get the idea that sex is good.

Guns are good and we need to make sure every kid is packing in school just in case....

CNN's town hall on guns last night was quite good. Here was one key moment:

I never knew Rubio was so good at dancing. Obviously the answer is no, he will continue to accept donations from the NRA even though he wouldn’t come out and actually say the words.

I get people wanting to protect their constitutional rights. And I support that. I support the 2nd amendment, too. But to think that the 2A allows for unfettered access to any kind of firearm is beyond ridiculous. So when the NRA comes out and says they will fight against any laws limiting firearm sales to kids, you have to break ties with them. You can't support a lobby that has a main purpose of selling products designed to kill people to (nearly) anyone.

They can’t have .50 cal machine guns on their PU trucks. Isn’t that a violation of their Constitutional rights? We should be able to line our propert with land mines to protect ourselves. What if they attack us in mass or with a vehicle? Surely we should be allowed to have RPG’s. They could steal a tank from the National Guard like some guy did awhile back. I should be allowed to have a tank too just in case...

I visited my brother not long ago. He’s a right wing Republican gun nut. He’s constantly talking about those evil RINO’s. He has a gun safe filled with every gun imaginable. He makes his own bullets. He got a new assault rifle for Christmas and wanted to show it off. I said man, you have a lot of guns. He said it’s only half of them. The other half are hidden around the house in various places loaded, just in case. I’m guessing 40-50 guns.

Did you know that after Columbine over 10,000 school police officers were hired "just in case" a school shooting happened? They haven't stopped a single school shooting but they've arrested over 1 million kids, mostly students of color, for routine behavior violations. There was an armed guard at Parkland. He failed too.
