It's the weirdest shit, nobody was doing this before the great pumpkin.
Agreed, though they did hate Obama with quite a passion. I think that's where the worst of all this started. The GOP voters' brains broke at the sight of a black guy winning the White House. For years Fox ran these bile-filled stories about how Obama used the wrong kind of mustard or wore the wrong color suit. They just relentlessly hated the guy. I think that made the base of the toxic stew that Trump stepped into.

It’s FOX. It’s their job to attack every Dem President. The fact that the best dirt they could dig up on him was he wore the wrong colored suit is a testament to him.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that SCOTUS has allowed this Texas law to go forward.

Wow. Justice Alito was found to have an upside-down American flag flying at his house, considered to be a "Stop the Steal" symbol, on or near 1/6/21. That's just crazy (but becoming normal for this Supreme Court). Alito claims his wife did it, but still, uh, maybe wouldn't you tell her not to do that so as not to appear evil and partisan?

I grew up thinking the Supreme Court was filled with the most honorable Americans alive who were indifferent to politics. That is certainly not the case nowadays.

A Supreme Court justice doing this? I live around a lot of Trump supporters and I have never seen an upside down flag hanging anywhere ever in my neighborhood.

That’s what got Sheriff Joe Arppaio in trouble.

Upside down flag is a symbol of distress. Not sure why you guys never knew that. It isn't exclusively for or even made up by the "Stop the Steal" people.

Some guy on Reddit

Answer: While the Flag Code of the US says only to fly the flag upside down due to “dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property,” it has taken on a renewed political meaning of late; it means the flyer of the flag believes there is some severe crisis within the country. This practice was only rarely employed before 9/11; but since then, there has been a resurgence of this symbology. Typically, this is only done by civilians on American soil. Flying our flag upside down on foreign soil would be unusual or dishonorable.

In old-timey military days, it meant individual distress for soldiers/sailors (ship is sinking, fort is under siege, etc). Also, it can double as a surrender flag if no white sheet is available, or as a “truce” flag for medics to tend to the wounded, burial corps to police dead bodies, etc…though again, a white sheet is preferred for this.

Edit: yesterday, the US Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which was deeply to offensive to many (which explains why this topic came up yesterday).

Edit(2): Flying a flag upside down on foreign soil would potentially have been understood as an SOS, but not as a political statement; thus, without any distress, it would have been seen as strange at best, or perfidious at worst. Radios and cell phones have made communication with flags less necessary, though navies and civilian ships still use them.

Edit(3): *symbolism, not symbology

Edit(4): 9/11 was the date chosen by the history buff whom I asked this question. According to him (he didn’t want to be cited on here because he’s a huge wuss) it would have been incredibly unusual to see an upside down flag above a school, business, town clock, etc. before 9/11, though it was indeed used for bumper stickers, on clothing, pickets, record albums, and so on before this.

I agreed with piint 1 of the article. I thought Perry was convicted rightfully, and I disagree with the pardon by Abbott.

Point 2, I do think they need to stay non-political as a judge, and I wish the appointments were down the middle. Unfortunately, it seems that no matter who is selected, confirmed and sworn in, it will always be some type of political slant. It would be quite hard to argue that Sotomayor, Kagan, Kennedy and Jackson are not clearly on one side. The only ones that goes back and forth Barrett and Roberts.
