If you're not following Anna Massoglia on twitter, follow her. She's shining a light on dark money flowing into DC, illegal PACs, etc. Really great and interesting stuff. Here's a massive research article that was making the rounds last week.

Trump's lawyers submitted a brief today claiming that the legislative branch has no authority to investigate the President, and only the DoJ (executive branch) has the authority to do so. They literally want a system where the only check on the leader is from people who he himself appoints. Hmm.

He is used to be the top boss and everyone reports to him and he can do whatever he wants. It is literally the worst type of person to be president.

During the campaign, plenty of my family members would say that they supported him because they wanted a business man/CEO to run the government like a business. I would always point out that the primary job of a business is to make money for the people at the top of the business, and that is the exact opposite of what you should be paying your government to do. They would look at me like I was crazy at first, then think a bit, then say they agreed, but they still couldn't vote for a woman/that woman/a democrat/whatever excuse to keep supporting an open racist/misogynist.

He's never been held accountable. He's always fired, bullied, sued, counter-sued, declared bankruptcy and walked away.

Unfortunately, it seems we're woefully behind in creating/updating laws that politicians and staff have to be held to. Dems are issuing subpoenas and being ignored. Holding people in contempt and being ignored. What's the threat?

I don't see how anyone, Republican or otherwise, thinks it is good for our executive branch to refuse legally required subpoenas. Why is it okay that they openly flout the law? Would Republicans be okay with it if Democrats start doing that? Don't they worry about the precedent this is setting?

Remember that the Dems in 2013 used the Nuclear option to get rid of debate on federal judges. It really backfired on them. They weren't thinking about the future. The people charge do whatever they need to stay in charge. Even if it means they will pay for it in the future. They figure that is someone else's problem, or that they will find a way out of it then. It is maddening for those of us that aren't rich and powerful and can buy or coerce ourselves out of any issue.

This is why I see Trump and the Rs doing everything possible to stay in power in 2020. Even if they lose the election, it'll be a battle to get him out of the WH.

Federal watchdog agency recommends removal of Kellyanne Conway for violating Hatch Act.

“How unique is this? I am not aware of any other time, to my mind, ever, where the Office of Special Counsel has recommended the removal of a White House presidential appointee,” Jacobson said.

Nothing will happen. It is a recommendation to the president to fire someone that says good things about him on TV. It wouldn't matter if she shot someone on 5th avenue. He won't fire her.

Blame the recommendation on the Deep State conspiracy, nothing to see here.

Trump yesterday said if a foreign country offered him dirt on an opponent in an election that he would take it.

FEC chair responds to Trump saying he'd accept foreign intel on opponent: 'It is illegal'

Federal Election Commission (FEC) Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub said Thursday it is illegal to accept foreign assistance during elections after President Trump publicly suggested he would accept foreign intelligence on opponents.

"I would not have thought that I needed to say this," Weintraub tweeted Thursday with her statement.

"Let me make something 100 percent clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election," Weintraub said.

It is nuts. He is openly admitting that he welcomes illegal help to win the US election in 2020. How can anybody be okay with this? This is inciting a federal crime and undermining American democracy. He must be stopped.

The only people that can stop him are the republicans in the senate. And the only way they do that is if they think they will lose power if they don't. And nearly all of the GOP Senate seats up for re-election in 2020 are in deep red states. Only 7 of the 22 look to be even somewhat competitive. And there is at least one of the 12 Dem seats up in 2020 that will be competitive. Still early though.

I stopped by my mothers house and she and I got into politics. She is a Trump fan. She is on his mailing list. They send her crap all the time asking for money. She only watches FOX News. She forbade me to vote. She believes everything Trump says.

“Hillary and Obama murdered people!”

“If a Democrat is elected we will all end up in soup lines.”

“Democrats are all socialists and want to destroy our country!”

“They are going to try to take away my Social Security.”

I showed her my dozens of links to articles showing her my point of view. She immediately brushed them all off as fake. Trump owns my mother. I told her I think he is evil and can’t wait to vote against him. So sad.

Kind of in the same boat. Not that I'm so politically affiliated but it just sucks watching people close to you get brainwashed. I don't bother showing them any actual articles because they'll brush it off as being slanted to the left and then call me a Democrat. I usually just crack some jokes making fun of them or what they think is accurate just to show how ridiculous most of that stuff is. Best I can get is "both sides are no good" or "both sides do it". I have at least gotten them to switch the channel for a little more balance but it hardly makes a dent.

But even with the debate last night, the Dems still don't get it. They're still playing by rules and notions that lost them the last election.

I can’t get my mother to watch anything else except FOX News. I think I will attempt to get her to at least watch the debate tonight.

I am not so sure they need to pick somebody to out bully Trump to win and I hope that breaking all the rules at some point has negative consequences. The Dem can’t be a pushover but I would appreciate a person of high character that I can believe in. I think some Americans are shocked by the erosion of ethics and morality going on and would also be attracted to someone of higher moral fiber.

They need someone who can hold an audience, speak like an everyman (which Trump does, for better or worse) and take shots at Trump that are funny but hit him where it hurts. You need someone with wit and sarcasm who can accurately point out his ridiculousness and then hammer home how bad he's been as President and how awful he is as a person. Droning on about policy and ethics is not what's going to get the attention of the masses, the networks or social media. We live in a reality TV based, celebrity driven, 280 character world. You can still have ethics, morals and high character while being funny and sarcastic.

"Mr. ShelC, what would be your first act as President?"

"Well, Mrs. Kardashian-West my first act as President would be to have the secret service tie Don the Con to a chair so we can hose him down and find out what color he really is. I also wanna see what that mop on his head looks like soaking wet."

Tell me that wouldn't go viral and win over half the country instantly.

Better than most of them! But that's what I think it would take. Need someone to shake it up a bit the way Trump does.
