Dunno how much folks here want to dive into it, but it seems like the UK just had a stunning election in which its leftist Labour party had a landslide win over the conservative Tories. My vague understanding of it is that the more center-left party allied with Labour to produce a strong majority. Seems like the Brits are reacting strongly to the huge failure of Brexit and general failure of Tory / isolationist / conservative policies.

The world wasn’t ready for Trump the first time. Now our enemies and allies are preparing for another Trump Presidency. Our enemies hoping for Trump. Our allies preparing for an America who doesn’t act like an ally.

The world wasn’t ready for Trump in 2016. It’s not making that mistake this time.
In 2016, no one in the world was ready for President Trump. America’s NATO allies aren’t making the same mistake this time.

Oh wow. It looks like the left leaning party is likely to win power in the French election? This comes as a surprise because the right wing party was projected to win by their polls.

Kind of amazing. Congratulations to District 1 again. Pan Am forever.

I guess the left won the election in France. Now Maga in the US says the left cheated. How do they know? Because the left won.

Venezuela had a Presidential election yesterday. The incumbent, Maduro, is a bit of a tyrant and aspiring authoritarian. But in something of a shock, he lost the election by a huge margin, something like 60% to 30% in favor of his opponent. Maduro has declared that the election was rigged and that he isn't going to accept its results (hmmmmmmm). Thankfully other countries all over the world, as well as tons of people in Venezuela, are calling BS on this and pushing him to accept the results. I am not an expert on Venezuelan politics but it seems like this will be good for their country for Maduro to step aside and a more democratic leader to take his place.

We shouldn't be surprised by this. I would say that the US does similar type things all the time, I imagine.
Your imagination is a scary place.
You think that the US doesn't do similar readiness drills and this is just my imagination?
I hate to agree with In2, but I don’t see what’s so “scary” about the idea of the US military practicing for potential strikes against Chinese military aircraft. I mean, I hope it’s not necessary to put that practice into action, but it’s best to be prepared.

fwiw, the US has put out a statement saying that we recognize Urrutia as the winner of Venezuela's election and Maduro as the loser.

I am sitting on the waterfront in Varna, Bulgaria and there seems to be an unusual naval presence, just heard what sounds like a backfiring boat engine but it sounds a bit suspicious given the patrol boats in the water off the beach and the military helicopter in the air. Have you heard anything about it?

Ok, supposedly a training exercise but during the summer off one of the most popular beaches on the Black Sea coast? Makes me wonder...

BTW in an upscale compound where most of the owners are supposedly Russian, half the license plates were Ukrainian. You can avoid the draft by repatriating overseas income for the war effort. Russian draft dodgers in force here, too. Ukrainians are engaging the locals and doing things like opening beauty salons for locals and western European tourists. Russians are sticking to themselves.

Ok, they just dropped two military paratroopers streaming Bulgarian and EU flags into the water. Not clear from the pics but see attached. Definitely a show of force to demonstrate that Bulgaria will be protected, imagine the same across the border in Romania, too.

Amazing how much Putin is uniting Europe, noting that many folks in Bulgaria seem to be sick of the war.
