CNN had Donald Trump on for a town hall style interview last night. Trump basically walked all over the moderator and had the mostly Republican crowd cheering and laughing. It seemed like a big win for him. Not sure what CNN was thinking. Here's a summary of the event that I agree with.

I recorded it and started watching. I couldn’t take Trump spewing his lies all over the place. She tried to fact check him but, he just spews his lies and ignores her. I stopped watching after about ten minutes. It was like watching FOX News. No regard for the truth whatsoever.

He claimed his speech before the riot was peaceful and contained only happy peaceful words. Total lie.

He was asked why he didn’t call for the National Guard. He claimed he did. She said the guy would would be given that order claims Trump never gave the order. Trump says he did and that Nancy Pelosi stopped them. Total lie

She asked why did it take so long for him to tweet to his followers to stop the violence. He claimed he did early but someone intercepted his message and it never got out. Total lie.

Talking about the rape trial. He said he never met her. Then he acknowledged the picture of them together with their spouses. Then he claimed she led him to the dressing room being all sexual and it was her who made all the sexual moves on him. “What kind of woman does that.” So this woman he never met was the one who sexually attacked him. I guess he is giving us multiple choices on the versions of the story.

They asked 10 Trump supporters about the rape trial. 7 of them hadn’t heard of it and 3 said she was lying of course.

^ I couldn't watch too much of the Trump town hall. I turned it on but it was so full of infuriating garbage that I just turned it off after a few minutes. Why give oxygen to that trash? They should be ashamed of themselves at CNN for hosting an event like that.

He is the leading GOP candidate by a large margin. CNN supposedly turned over a new leaf and are trying to be trying to be unbiased. I am not sure what they were thinking packing the audience with MAGA. They cheered his lies and insults. Did CNN do it for ratings? Probably. What is the right answer? No idea anymore. Insane times.

Anderson Cooper went on air the next day defending the network's town hall, arguing that it's good to be exposed to people with other ideas and cover both/all sides, and so on. I think his argument is mostly hogwash. Sure it's good to know what arguments various folks are making and what issues they're advancing. But you don't have to give free advertising to a dangerous authoritarian on your network, surrounded by a crowd of cheering fans, against a grossly overmatched moderator who can't hold him to account. Unimpressive journalism here.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday reacted to remarks by former US President Donald Trump that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if re-elected as the president of the US.

During Zelensky’s visit to Rome, he was asked by a reporter for his response to Trump’s remarks, to which he said: “(When Trump was the US President) there was no full-scale invasion, but there was a war. There was already a Russian aggression. Crimea was occupied, part of Donbas was occupied. I'm not sure if he was deeply involved into this matter, but, nevertheless, he did not solve this issue. I'm not sure it was a priority for him. I am not accusing him of anything. But we have the facts. And we have to look at them,” Zelensky said.
