How do you fix a country this broken? Are any of you guys considering overseas investment or leaving? I am worried that we'll go fascist in a few years and then it'll be too late to leave.

Why would it be too late to leave then? Are you thinking they will close the borders? Or too many people will be leaving and make it unaffordable?

If I had a realistic option elsewhere I would have plans in place to do so. But my kids are in HS right now and our aging parents are our responsibility. It doesn't make sense to try and move all of us somewhere else right now. I need to at least last another 5 years here, and then it all depends on the health of our parents.

Would it really be any better someplace else? The entire world is in turmoil right now. This is your country as much as anyone’s. This is certainly a dangerous time in our history. We have been through a lot worse.

We all love our family. We all want affordable health care. We all want good paying jobs. We all want to feel safe. Nobody likes paying taxes and having high debt. Nobody likes paying high prices for gas and food. I don’t know a single Con who talks about wanting Fascism. I don’t know a single Dem who talks about wanting Socialism. We aren’t as different as advertised.

What I don't understand is how some Reps want to get rid of Social Security and how ANY normal people would want that.

A fair question. I do think it could be better elsewhere. Things could become unsafe here if widespread vigilantism happens during/after the elections in 2024. I also worry about the high number of school shootings here along with the generally unhealthy US gun culture and how it impacts the safety of my children. I don't think one should flee at the first sign of trouble, but I also think if American democracy becomes effectively overthrown, this would not be a country I would want to live in or support any longer. I don't think "stay and fight" makes any sense in such a situation.

I think the argument is that it isn’t sustainable and will run out of money at some point. I heard another argument that people have paid into it for their entire lives and the money was spent on other things.

So those who have contributed to it their entire lives would be SOoL?

Judge sanctions Trump lawyers over handling of ‘frivolous’ lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, DNC
https://thehill.com/regulation/court-ba ... inton-dnc/

A federal judge on Thursday ordered sanctions against former President Trump’s attorneys over their handling of a since-dismissed lawsuit brought on Trump’s behalf against his 2016 Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and dozens more defendants.

According to the judge’s sanctions order, Trump’s suit contained factual assertions that were “either knowingly false or made in reckless disregard for the truth.”

Former Trump aide convicted (found guilty) of funneling Russian money to Trump. Hmm, ok, but there's no Russiagate, the whole thing is a hoax.

They finally got his tax returns. Will they find anything amiss in there?

Donald Trump literally calls for the US Constitution to be set aside so that the 2020 election can be nullified and he can be installed as President:

Trump got a Trump appointed judge to temporarily block the DOJ from viewing the secret classified government documents Trump stole from the government. A Federal panel of three judges has issued their judgment and have chastised Trumps judge for her ruling and eliminated the Master BS so the Feds can go to work.

https://thehill.com/policy/national-sec ... stigation/
“The law is clear. We cannot write a rule that allows any subject of a search warrant to block government investigations after the execution of the warrant. Nor can we write a rule that allows only former presidents to do so,” the judges wrote.

Republicans have no problem with Trump saying that we should suspend the Constitution.

Some major Republican players have cut ties with Trump this last go around. I hope the tide continues and some of these Republican politicians who don’t like Trump, but still support him out of fear they could lose their seat will grow a pair. You’re not cool unless you like DeSantis now.
