I had a "The GOP" thread, but no real "The Dems" thread for random things Democrats do.

Looks like the Lt. Gov. of NY is being arrested for campaign finance violations. Ruh roh.

The Dems are going to be hammered in the mid terms. The GOP is going to regain power in the House and Control the House and Senate. Then they will impeach Biden 10-12 times for good measure.

That is a silly thing to say. If the GOP thought that they could actually impeach and remove Biden, they would absolutely do it in a heartbeat. If Republicans think Harris is so crappy, they'd WANT her running the country so she could showcase her badness and sink the Dems more. This conservative talking point about "Well, golly, we'd impeach/remove Sleepy Pedo Brandon but look at how bad the VP is!", is just excuse-making and rationalization because they know it's almost impossible to remove a sitting President from office. Look at recent history. We had a literal seditious traitor in the highest office and we couldn't even get him out.

Thanks for the liberal talking points. Interesting that no one who entered the Capitol building was charged with sedition (insurrection) or treason, which are crimes.

Um, you can't be charged with treason if we aren't at war. And sedition is very hard to prove. So you focus on the crimes that are clear as day, which is probably why they have a +99% conviction/pleading guilty rate for all defendants already through trials.

Colleagues worry Dianne Feinstein is now mentally unfit to serve, citing recent interactions

WASHINGTON — When a California Democrat in Congress recently engaged in an extended conversation with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, they prepared for a rigorous policy discussion like those they’d had with her many times over the last 15 years.

Instead, the lawmaker said, they had to reintroduce themselves to Feinstein multiple times during an interaction that lasted several hours.

Rather than delve into policy, Feinstein, 88, repeated the same small-talk questions, like asking the lawmaker what mattered to voters in their district, the member of Congress said, with no apparent recognition the two had already had a similar conversation.

The episode was so unnerving that the lawmaker — who spoke to The Chronicle on condition they not be identified because of the sensitivity of the topic — began raising concerns with colleagues to see if some kind of intervention to persuade Feinstein to retire was possible. Feinstein’s term runs through the end of 2024. The conversation occurred several weeks before the death of her husband in February.

“I have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of the details, basically couldn’t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea. All of that is gone,” the lawmaker said. “She was an intellectual and political force not that long ago, and that’s why my encounter with her was so jarring. Because there was just no trace of that.”

Four U.S. senators, including three Democrats, as well as three former Feinstein staffers and the California Democratic member of Congress told The Chronicle in recent interviews that her memory is rapidly deteriorating. They said it appears she can no longer fulfill her job duties without her staff doing much of the work required to represent the nearly 40 million people of California.

They said that the memory lapses do not appear to be constant and that some days she is nearly as sharp as she used to be. During the March confirmation hearing for soon-to-be-Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Feinstein appeared composed as she read pertinent questions, though she repeated comments to Jackson about the judge’s composure in the face of tough questioning. But some close to her said that on her most difficult days, she does not seem to fully recognize even longtime colleagues.

“It’s bad, and it’s getting worse,” said one Democratic senator. This person said that within the Senate, Feinstein has difficulty keeping up with conversations and discussions.

“There’s a joke on the Hill, we’ve got a great junior senator in Alex Padilla and an experienced staff in Feinstein’s office,” said a staffer for a California Democrat.

How about we'll force Feinstein out if you force Mitch McConnell to retire?

If I could force out McConnell, I wouldn't even need a enticement. I don't even believe that he legitimately won his Senate race in KY.

On one hand, a friend of mine who worked for Feinstein as recently as two years ago says that she's still sharp.

On the other hand, she wasn't a member of the inner circle and I find it hard not to believe that Feinstein is slipping.

The point is that the Democrats are merely incompetent while the Republicans are trying to destroy what America stands for.

Democratic mega-donor Ed Buck, 67, is jailed for 30 years: Judge slams his 'horrific and reprehensible' preying on gay black men at drug-fueled Hollywood sex parties where two overdosed and die
  • Ed Buck, 67, got the prison term for deaths of Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean
  • The judge in LA on Thursday slammed the 'horrific' and 'reprehensible' crimes
  • She said Buck being abused by his father as child was 'mitigating circumstance'
  • Meanwhile the victims' family and friends burst into tears as they gave testimony

Democratic mega-donor Ed Buck has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of supplying dangerous drugs to gay men - with two overdosing.

The 67-year-old was slapped with the jail term over the deaths of 26-year-old escort Gemmel Moore and 55-year-old porn actor Timothy Dean.

The judge on Thursday slammed the 'horrific' and 'reprehensible' crimes but refused to lock him away indefinitely.

She said the fact Buck was abused by his father and a priest when he was a child were 'mitigating circumstances'.

Meanwhile the victims' family and friends burst into tears as they gave moving testimony at the court in downtown LA.

Moore's mother LaTisha Nixon said she had warned her boy to stay away from the sick businessman, adding: 'Now all I have is memories and his ashes.'

And Dean's sister Joann Campbell said he had 'taken away my best friend' as she called for him to be dealt the 'most sever punishment possible'.

Buck was last year convicted on charges he injected gay men with methamphetamine in exchange for sex, leading to two deaths and other overdoses.

He was found guilty of all nine felony counts against him, with the verdict coming exactly four years after Moore was found dead in Buck's Hollywood apartment.

Judge Christina Snyder today dished out his sentence, telling him his crimes were 'horrific', adding: 'What happened here is reprehensible conduct. All lives matter.'

Prosecutors had earlier urged the judge to impose a life sentence, but Buck's attorney, Mark Werksman, asked for 10 years.

Judge Snyder, noting 'mitigating circumstances' - including him being sexually abused by his father and a priest as a child - said life would be 'overly punitive'.

She sentenced him to 30 years to life in prison, to run concurrently, for the two counts of distributing methamphetamine resulting in the deaths of Moore and Dean.

She sentenced him to 20 years, to run concurrently with the 30 years already handed out, for each of four counts of distributing methamphetamine, two counts of 'enticement to travel in interstate commerce for prostitution' and one of 'maintaining a drug involved premises'.

I feel like an age limit to serve in elected positions would be beneficial.

I don't know about a age limit but a competency test every year would be good. Some people stay sharp for many, many years. I hope to be one of those.
