Did Musk do this, or could this be another reason for doubt?

Think it is safe to say half of all Twitter accounts are bots.

Nearly half of the Twitter accounts spreading messages on the social media platform about the coronavirus pandemic are likely bots, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University said Wednesday.

If Musk is genuinely worried about the number of bots, which is also reported to the SEC and used in numbers given to advertisers to the platform, unlawfully sowing doubt about his bid to buy Twitter might not be what he's doing. He might be seriously rethinking it. Wouldn't you?

If these things are known and found out, I believe that I said something about this before, there will be credible civil suits by share holders, advertisers that based their money spent to Twitter on the numbers and even criminal charges because of false filings with the SEC.

None of this is new information. Musk seems to be conflating "bots" and "fake" and "inactive" accounts. Lots of the studies above use all of them to mean the same thing. So like if you have a twitter account but don't tweet or retweet or like posts, it will show you as "fake" which is probably about half the accounts on twitter. This isn't news to him or anyone. When Twitter reports "fake" accounts to their share holders, it includes those accounts that were created and actively used to spread information. But again, everybody knows this, including anyone offering up to buy the company for billions more than it is worth. This is just typical Elon behavior.

There are also a lot of bot accounts on Twitter, that also spread misinformation to attack other users, along with these "fake" users. After using it long enough, you see them all over the place. I just don't know if I would want to buy something like that. It certainly needs to be cleaned up if anything.

The bot thing is obviously just an excuse concocted by Musk to try to get out of his purchase deal and/or drive the price down. The fact that some decently large percentage of Twitter users are bots is completely obvious public knowledge that anybody with even a passing knowledge of social networks would already have. Either Musk already knew that before making his purchase offer or he's a complete buffoon.

Elon Musk faces a lawsuit accusing him of pushing down Twitter's stock price in order to either give himself an escape hatch from his $44 billion buyout bid, or room to negotiate a discount.

Yes, everyone knows there are bots, but the amount submitted to the SEC said it was around 5%. If it's much more than that, that's a huge problem. Did Musk know that it was prior? And/or is he just dumb? I'm not convinced it has to be either or both.

Over a % given in filings to the SEC, if he "knows" it's more, than the feet put to the fire is either Twitter or the SEC. Someone needs to render a decision. I don't know if that qualifies him as a buffoon, if he took the number at face value.

Twitter didn't tell the SEC that there are only 5% of accounts that are bots. They said they have 5% fake accounts. There are plenty of bots that are not fake accounts. We already talked about this.

This Twitter deal is 100% falling through. As many predicted, Musk is using the twitter "bot" thing as his excuse.

Musk applies 1960s Draconian employment principles to an increasingly dynamic work environment.

That the 40-hour requirement is "less than we ask of factory workers" ... statement is one of the most clueless pronouncements in years.

I am pretty sure Tesla asks more from their factory workers. That is why he paid people to spy on his employees to find ones that were discussing unions and organizing on social media.

I guess he is more used to the Apartheid mining workforce.

Kind of off-topic for this thread, but I encourage you to read this article. It's a conversation between a Google engineer and am AI developed by the company. The engineer thinks the AI has become sentient. I don't usually go for hype about stuff like that as a computer scientist, but this conversation log is at minimum a step forward in natural language processing, if not a neural network breakthrough.

Seth Rich's killing was exploited on Fox News and online. His parents are fed up

Our interview represents the first public remarks the Riches have made since they reached a confidential settlement in fall 2020 with the Fox News Channel and its parent company, Fox Corp., over its role in peddling those false claims. Under the terms of that deal, they cannot directly speak about Fox or its stars.

After Seth's death, figures friendly to former President Donald Trump portrayed him as a disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporter. They peddled false claims that he had secretly stolen thousands of emails and given them to WikiLeaks to try to stop Hillary Clinton from winning the presidency. They suggested Clinton and the Democrats had arranged his killing. And that the Riches themselves were in on some kind of cover-up.

Fox stars including Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Eric Bolling, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Fox News contributor, were among those who baselessly suggested that Seth Rich had been the leaker and that he was murdered because of those leaks. Fox aired the claims without providing any evidence and ominously warned that Democrats might have been behind his death. (Bolling said his killing stemmed from "not a robbery" but "a hit.")

"They didn't know him," Joel Rich says, rejecting all of the conspiracy theories about his son.
