2022 Election Day - Tue 11/8

Post by Mori Chu »

Thought I'd make a thread for election day today to discuss all of the various races. We may get some exit polls and partial results by late tonight, maybe even results called for some not-that-close races. A lot of the results will probably come tomorrow (Wed), though.

Any predictions, anyone? I wouldn't say that I have been closely watching any polls. Here's CNN's summary of some of the more interesting races:

https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2022/10 ... aces-2022/

Generally speaking I'd say that I think the Republicans will take the House but that the Dems will narrowly hold the Senate majority. A few race-specific predictions:

AZ:
* Kari Lake will win governor.
* Mark Kelly will beat Blake Masters for Senate.

GA:
* Warnock will beat Hershel Walker for Senate.
* Brian Kemp will beat Stacy Abrams for Governor.
* Brad Raffensperger will win as Secretary of State.

PA:
* Fetterman will beat Oz for Senate.
* Shapiro will beat Mastriano (by a very wide margin) for Governor.

WI:
* Ron Johnson will beat Mandela Barnes for Senate. (so dumb, such a winnable seat for the Dems)

Any other races on your minds?

I was hoping Evan McMullin could beat out Mike Lee here in Utah, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem likely.

I predict every Republican who loses will claim fraud.

Too easy, 'Dack. I don't have high hopes for this election. I got my votes in weeks ago. I'm not going to invest any time into watching the results. I'm ready to be disappointed. Especially in my home state of Arizona.

It’s a little early to be saying that.

Yes, please. The good thing is a lot of these election deniers seem to be losing.

It looks like 66% of precincts are reporting and that currently Hobbs has a narrow ~0.5% lead over Lake. So it's much too soon to call either way, despite my hooting and hollering last night. Have to watch and see.

Overall takeaway seems to be that Dems have overperformed the generally dismal expectations, but GOP could still narrowly take the House and/or Senate. Will need to keep watching results come in today and the rest of the week to know more.

Stop hooting and hollering. It's like celebrating a Suns win in the first quarter when we have a lead. Don't be Suns in 4 guy! This shit is far too important :P
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I was pretty excited last night because most of the Dems were ahead. Last election they counted the in person votes before counting the mail in ballots and that gave Trump an excuse to claim fraud because he was ahead early. I thought with the Dems being up early before even counting the mail in votes, which are mostly Dems, that the Dems had it in the bag. Then I heard that they were counting the mail in votes early and not after the in person votes. That gave the Dems an early lead and Republicans get the late push.

I was an inspector/team leader at an East Valley voting center. Many problems with tabulators (voting machines), but eventually we got them replaced with new machines. The result was more misread ballots, which are aggregated and read at the County Elections Department main office, where they are staffed during elections 24/7 to handle voting.
Window is open again ... blue skies ahead?

Lauren Boebert is still behind as of latest count. If this holds it would be a huge upset.

Still waiting for results to come in from AZ, NV, CA, and a few others. Encouraged by the VERY BLUE results so far in AZ; hope they hold.
