How about this one.

Federal prosecutors have charged a Wisconsin man for allegedly using a popular artificial intelligence image generator to create thousands of explicit images of children, marking what is potentially the first federal charge of creating child sexual abuse material applied to images produced entirely through AI.

Immediately cancelled my ChatGPT Pro membership. This is fucking terrible, outside of the other shit they've been doing lately at OpenAI.

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Add this to it..

https://openai.com/index/openai-and-reddit-partnership/

Between that and the deal with Reddit... I don't like companies just giving over data like that. I know in the TOS I'm sure they're covered but would argue that nobody knew that their Reddit post would be utilized and monetized with AI.

Yeah, I can't believe they made that partnership. Why poison the mind of the world's most advanced AI? Completely asinine decision.

Xi says hold my beer. It’s the Sun so take it with a grain of salt.

'CHAT XI PT' China builds Xi Jinping AI chatbot to control ‘thoughts, politics and actions’ of citizens while US rivals are blocked
https://www.the-sun.com/tech/11442351/c ... ot-values/
China's strict rules mean that homegrown large language models cannot be trained on English language-based data sets.

Otherwise their chatbots may pick up on values deemed too Western.

Instead, the new model has been trained on a data set that draws heavily from government regulations, as well as policy and state media reports, according to the FT's report.

President Xi is mentioned an eyewatering 86,314 times in these documents.

A line in one of the documents says chatbots must “ensure that in thought, politics, and action, we are always in high alignment with the Party Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core."

Another says: "Let us unite more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core."

Google has rolled out an AI layer on their main search engine to all users this week. Neat, but, it is fulllllll of errors and problems. Read this thread for some examples; there are many more

This is interesting. Apple has decided to partner with OpenAI for large language model (LLM) AI data.

This article predicts that OpenAI is in trouble if the don't raise a ton of money soon. I don't know if this is a common prediction; maybe they'd get bought out if they run dry on cash.

All part of Microsoft's long range plan to absorb OpenAI on the cheap. MSFT is making so much from OpenAI on Azure driving more users to Azure cloud that any OAI revenues are incidental. It's all Azure and Copilot.

A Scientist Says Humans Will Reach the Singularity Within 21 Years
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/ar-AA1osINN
Futurists have long debated the arrival of the singularity, when human and artificial intelligence will merge, a concept borrowed from the world of quantum physics.

American computer scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil has long argued that the singularity would likely occur around the middle of the 21st century, and with the rise of AI, his predictions are gaining more credence.

In his new book, The Singularity is Nearer, Kurzweil doubles down on those predictions and details how humanity’s intelligence will increase a millionfold via nanobots (among other things).

A millionfold increase in intelligence? Would that make us more or less likely to destroy ourselves?

I don’t like headlines like that. I don’t care what a scientist says, I care about the consensus of experts in a given field.

In the ai field I think we have no consensus on anything other than it’s super powerful and could lead to great things or maybe really bad things.

As a computer scientist myself, I think AI is currently over hyped. I am impressed by ChatGPT and its ilk, but they aren't anywhere close to general intelligence. They are just input/output machines that answer questions based on rules and data sets. If you think GPT is even close to being intelligent or self aware or whatever you're way off. 21 years is a long time but I really don't think we are even remotely close to achieving true intelligence.

The real revolution will be in how we learn how to use AI despite its limitations.AI is dumb...but nevertheless powerful.
