I feel for her and for women like her, but I don't know if anything can be done about the problem. Catcalling and unsolicited conversation are often unpleasant but aren't technically illegal, are they?

My wife used to get this all the time when we lived in New York. Then she agreed to marry me so I stopped.

It's not illegal but that doesn't mean it isn't wrong. I don't think women should have to walk down the street scared whenever they are alone. When I first saw it I felt like apologizing to all women on behalf of men. It isn't fair.

Plus the smile thing. If it's so innocuous why do men not tell other men to smile. It's absolutely sexist.

I absolutely agree that it is wrong. I just meant that I feel like I don't know what we can do to stop it. :-/

Sucks. It's the unfortunate world we live in. I'm respectful of women but there is a lot of cat calling and other things that occur that make me sick when I see them.

On a side note, at the end of the video, it asks to donate to Hollaback!, a non-profit to help end street harassment. Not sure what my financial donation will do to hinder idiots on the streets that don't know how to respect women.

If the scientists was a woman doing an interview in a shirt with hunks in speedos posing in suggestive poses all over it, it would have been all over the international media immediately. I can't believe the guy was dumb enough to choose that on the biggest day of his career so far and one he knew he would be filmed in.

Two separate issues. Agree with you on the judgement aspect but no way would it have been made a big deal if the shoe had been on the other foot.

The shitstorm pretty much started on Tumblr and Reddit, one of the reasons why I doubt the opposite would apply.

I disagree. People wouldn't be complaining of equality like they do in this instance; instead, they would be saying how unprofessional the woman was (again, in this fictional world). It would be used as a way to discredit the woman scientist.

Funny, sad, and true at the same time.

And, can you imagine all the other doubts that would be thrown their way, as well, from the hoaxers on line and what not.

GamerGate is about what, game magazines giving favorable reviews or something? I quit reading 'professional' reviews years ago. I usually wait till games are cheap enough that if they're horrible I'm not out much. ;)
