Well... Is it really any more crazy than any superstition?

Yes. Definitively.

Well, since I typed "Definitively" I figured I didn't have to answer that.

Well, clearly I am missing the dividing line between irrational ideas. What makes one less crazy than another?

Because if you believe in a crazy superstition that is based on a book (that you consider holy/infallible), it seems even crazier to be so reactionary when someone... never mind. They are likely both similar in their ridiculousness. I am glad we solved that.

I'm not trying to argue for the sake of arguing. Everyone of faith subconsciously cherry picks the parts they want to believe in. Which is good, because morals 2500 years ago can only be described as grotesque. Even Christians don't agree on things; you can't expect different religions, even if they are based on the same book, to agree on anything. People like to say they worship the same God, but by definition, if anyone is right, then everyone else is wrong.

I guess what I am saying is that if they all agree they start with the Old Testament, you can't say your god is different. Maybe you can say that your god has changed her/his/its stance on something, but you can't deny it is a different being. That just seems crazier to me.

You can say that other people are wrong. If someone believes in a concept of God that varies from yours, there is a line between where you just disagree with them a little and where you just say they believe in a false God.

I agree with you in principle, but religion makes people weird.

That we can all agree on.

I think there are a few of us here that might disagree. But they would be wrong.

I don't want to turn this into a religion bashing thread. I no longer understand or agree with the ideas behind any organized religion, but I respect the right of anyone to believe what they will as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else.

I also know nobody else here is religion bashing, but it's a subject where I get uncomfortable and I am the one who steered the thread down this road.

Agreed. I feel similarly.

It's kind of like any fandom. When you are a big fan of any sports team, the way you think about your team makes you a little weird.
