With the topics of systematic racism, social injustice and racial inequity in the national spotlight, both Turner and Hill admitted it's tough to think about basketball.

"I've been working every day since this all started with my body, my game and things like that, but as a whole, I can care less about basketball right now," Hill said. "That's like my last worry. That's just the game I'm blessed to play. When the ball goes up in the air, I'm ready to play, I love the competitive side of it, but that's not who I am. So, that's my last thought on my mind is basketball. I can care less what's going on. I think there's bigger issues and bigger things to tackle in life right now than a basketball game, but that's just my personal opinion."

Turner also says he's in great physical shape, but mentally, he's "still got a little more work to do" before he can fully focus on a return to basketball this season with all that's going on.

"I don't know how it's going to affect me on the basketball court," Turner said. "I know that I, physically, have been working my ass off this entire time I've been off. I haven't taken one day off since this whole hiatus has came into effect. I really have been busting my ass down here. I'm in great physical shape, but mentally, I've still got a little more work to do.

"I'm paid millions of dollars to go out there and perform at a high level so part of it's like, 'Man, you've got to suck it up and go out there and do what you're paid to do,' but the other part of it is like, 'Listen man this basketball s---, I love it, it's part of what makes me me, but it's not all of what makes me me, either,' and I have a responsibility as a young black professional athlete to advocate for this change."

Shane Larkin reflects on playing in Europe, returning to the NBA:
Now, if an NBA team is interested in him, it must guarantee him 18 to 25 minutes, a chance to shoulder “true responsibility” right away and designate him an “important piece of a franchise moving forward.” At the same time, he admits, “most players don’t make that jump from EuroLeague to being a starting point guard in the NBA.”

“I will not go back to the NBA as a third point guard,” Larkin said. “So, if any team asks about that, we’re not even gonna answer the phone.”

...

“I would rather have people love me as the player and as the person, as opposed to just being one of the other guys,” Larkin said. “My celebrity, the way I am perceived over there, I am the big player over there, I am the top dog in Europe at the moment. And that lifestyle is way more exciting, fun, gratifying than being one of the other guys in the NBA.”

Why?

“If I’m working that hard to try to get you guys to believe that I’m the best player in Europe, and people are understanding that, I want to enjoy the luxuries of that. I work hard for what I do and I want people to respect that. I don’t want to go to the gym and work out and put my body through hell, and then when it’s the most fun time, and everybody gets to see what you’ve been working on, and it’s time to put on a show, you’re in a warmup the entire time, sitting on the bench, you don’t get to enjoy the pleasures of your work. I love putting in the work and then I love the benefits of my hard work.”

This is total bullshit.

I’m all in support of the BLM movement and I think we have a long ways to go to correct systematic racism in this country (not only with blacks- yes they have historically been the most severely oppressed in USA, but with all ethnicities as well).

But you have a job to do. You get paid to play. Your fight is not against your employer, it has nothing to do with your employer. You don’t get to opt out because you want to hold a sign and protest for world change. Unless you’re willing to breach your contract and forfeit all your pay. Then fine. Sorry.

I would think NBA players could shine more light on the topic of systemic/systematic racism, social injustice, and racial inequity by playing than by not playing. It would give them a better platform and more eyes on them. And I do agree that they should be heavily involved. Like somebody I heard say, the NBA is the largest collection of successful black men in the world.

We have The Basketball Tournament:
The Basketball Tournament, a winner-take-all affair for a seven-figure sum to be held next month, will become the first live televised basketball competition in America since the coronavirus pandemic sidelined sporting events around the world in March.

Featuring former college stars and overseas standouts, the TBT will be held at Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets, for a 24-team tournament in Columbus, Ohio, from July 4-14, event officials announced on Thursday.

Now in its seventh year, the TBT prize will be $1 million -- it was $2 million last year -- and the event will air on ESPN, which recently agreed to a three-year extension to televise the TBT, and its family of networks.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mike Daum play; I would love for him to be a camp invite for the Suns.

Mitchell expressed concerns about playing due to “being behind the 8-ball” having not played five-on-five and being thrust into a competitive environment and eight-game regular season. “We’re taking a big (injury) risk,” Mitchell said.
A month isn't enough time to get ready for the 8-game season?
Yeah, that seems like enough time, unless he completely let himself go, which I doubt.
Let's talk about the elephant in the room. We all know what these guys are afraid of and it's facing our full strength Phoenix Suns!

"Bubble Plan" has its detractors:
One renowned epidemiologist chuckled at the very notion of a "bubble" approaching 2,000 people. There are weak spots, potential gaps where the virus could seep in. The NBA knows. League officials consulted with dozens of experts in crafting the set of health protocols -- expected to be sent to teams soon -- with an eye on closing as many of those gaps as possible. They will encounter unanticipated hurdles in Orlando.

"They are going to see things on the ground they did not expect," said Steven Pergam, an associate professor at the University of Washington and infectious disease specialist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Daily coronavirus testing and frequent temperature checks are designed to make up for any pinprick in the quarantine -- a Disney staffer who introduces the virus, a corrupted hotel surface, a player or family member leaving the bubble and returning with the virus, something else unforeseen.

I mean the solution to those problems are pretty simple- nobody goes in or out period. No exceptions except in emergency. That’s a lot to expect of people.

We're seeing right now that people don't really stick to quarantines and social distancing unless they're forced to. Vegas has reopened and is full of tightly packed people without masks on. Many states have lifted their quarantines / shutdowns and are trying to reopen. I'm currently visiting Tucson and when we go to the store, it's about 50/50 mask on vs off. It's like everybody has a death wish or something.

The second wave of COVID is going to be something fierce. So many will die unnecessarily. I don't know what that means for the NBA opening vs not opening. I think refusing to play because of racial justice issues is silly because I don't think the two are related. But I do think that if they get the teams together to play, there will be COVID cases that emerge in their supposed "bubble," and it's unclear how that should be dealt with. They could end up with a huge problem where a bunch of players and other NBA people get the virus. That would be really bad for the league.

I would love to watch NBA basketball, but at this point I kind of feel like they should just throw out the season and hope that things are better this fall to start the 2020-21 season fresh.

I don't think anyone has a death wish, but I think most don't see it as as big of a threat to their particular life. What is the chance that 1) Someone between 18-50 gets the virus and 2) those same group die from it?

Everyone every day does a risk analysis in their own life, without thinking of others, tbh.

Yeah, except you driving without a seatbelt on, or cliff diving, or smoking (Unless second hand) , drinking, etc does not put others lives at risk. Only your own.

If you lit a fire in your apartment, it’s your choice! Liberties! But you don’t get to burn down the rest of the complex and put others in danger without consequences.

I know this is not the thread for this, so I’ll save any further comment elsewhere.

It’s about the money. Canceling the season will cost a ton of salary money for the players, and a lot more on transmissions rights for the League. They are trying to reach the necessary threshold of played games to avoid all those penalties, and on top of that, the owners have a clause they can invoke to shutdown the entire revenue agreement. Players living day to day, and those aware of that clause are pushing for the continuation, but all of this have Nothing to do with the fans, they are looking to save their contractual obligations, and keep the money flowing.

You get millions of people risking their lives daily to get their daily income, but usually in the form of insecure environments or criminal activities around or within their routines, and all of them have to internalized it or lose their income. The current Health crisis is a tricky component on this, because it has never been a factor so big, so people are not used to factoring adequately on it’s decisions and are dealing with it as they do with the chance to get mugged on the subway, or to get poisoned at the factory with polluted air. It’s not about death wishes, they are just looking at it as another risk on top the rest they already face day to day.

People that is not used to deal with this hazard risk on our every day routine, can not understand why “they are not taking it more seriously”. They are, but in their traditional way of thinking. NBA players and their families are not that far from the average way of thinking, otherwise they would be a lot more savvy with an income that is very short lived.

they are right to raise the concerns and not forcing everyone to be in the bubble make it not a bubble. It is just a sieve.
