So sad. Loved Cliff as a Sun!
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I broke out my 2001 purple Cliff Robinson jersey today. One of my favorite Suns and a key piece to those late 90s, 50-win teams with Kidd leading the way. He was a stretch big before it was the cool thing to be and would've been in high demand today. One of the most underrated players of the 90s IMO.

Went back and looked at his stats and while his averages aren't mind blowing, he was ridiculously durable missing just 29 games over his first 16 years by my count. Never missed more than 7 games in a season until he was 38 and averaged 35 mpg between the ages of 32 and 37.

Very sad news. Gone way too soon. I remember his years here fondly, even though we didn't contend during that time. You get a guy like Cliff on your team and they just become an anchor, a guy you take for granted, somebody you assume will always be on the roster. You could play him with just about any lineup and he'd play amazing defense and drain a bunch of 3s. Really useful player, and as others pointed out, would be extremely usable in 2020's NBA.

As mentioned in another thread, one of seven Suns to score 50 or more in a game.

Here's the LA Times article about the night Robinson scored 50 from January 17, 2000:

Interestingly, Bobby Phills' funeral and phx-suns.net favorite, JR Reid, being suspended and fined are mentioned in the notes at the end.

I really really liked Cliff Robinson. Dude always guarded the best player on the other team and shot lights out from 3 when they moved the line closer if I recall correctly.
