Meant to post this yesterday, a throwback to those early 2000s "malaise" teams that won 50 games and lost in the 1st round every year. Just a few weeks later we'd get the Kidd/french fry incident that would effectively end the Kidd era. These were the teams I watched growing up tho, knowing we were good but not good enough to make any real noise against the likes of the Lakers, Kings, Blazers, Spurs. Delk and Rodney Rogers were two of the better FA signings we made IMO, just not enough to make the difference we needed.

A few of those pixels looked a little like Rodney Rogers, Cliff Robinson, and Tom Gugliotta. Reminded me of going to Suns.com to watch highlights after games and trying to determine what players I was actually looking at.

I actually liked those teams a lot. I know we didn't come close to the title, but it felt like we always worked hard and had a lot of guys I liked cheering for. Kidd, Cliffy, Rex Chapman, Rodney Rogers, McDyess, Googs, ... depending on whether you choose the early or late part of that era, you start to get some Shawn Marion in there. We bottomed out in around 02-03 but I enjoyed the team during most of that whole stretch.

Those Kidd teams would have been much better if McDyess didn't bail for Denver and Penny would have been healthy. I think they would have stood a chance at becoming something.

I think you need to at least make the playoffs or acquire a top 5 player before you can call yourself a contender.
He could be calling his shot. When the Suns got Nash, they went from lottery to best record in the West. Maybe something like that happens here. The Suns could be a contender if these three guys show up:

1. Dominayton
2. OKCCP3
3. Scrimmage Bridges
So far none of these things has happened (Bridges is close though) and the Suns are tied for the best record in the league.
That is crazy. (and I would say we are getting scrimmage bridges)
I think Scrimmage Bridges showed more scoring ability. Bridges has shown some off the bounce expansion of his game, but he primarily (and finally) living up to the "3" in "3&D."

The L*c L*ngley signing didn't help either.

Losing McDyess set us back and we never recovered. We ended up with Cliff, Googs and Longley and some other journeymen along the way. But we couldn't match up with the bigger, stronger, more athletic frontcourts at the time. Our guys tried and played hard and those teams usually overachieved, plus you knew the FO/ownership was always trying to get better.

Yeah, at least we had a FO/ownership that was always trying to get better.

With McDyess? No, Rich Paul was a nobody at that time probably in HS.
