The thing about the Lakers is they actually added some decent role players for pretty cheap. I don’t love the Westbrook fit, but guys like Monk, Nunn, Ellington, and Bazemore are solid. If Carmelo buys in, he can be a pretty effective floor spacer. Even Ariza and Rondo can do some things if they’re not asked too much.

I’d tell him to stay home. I don’t want half a player that can’t even practice with the team. I wonder if this is ultimately what got Wiggins to get the vaccine, the Warriors telling him they wouldn’t bother even bringing him along to the road games if he wasn’t going to be with the team at home.

Kyrie seems like he’s crazy enough and committed enough to actually sit out the season. He also might just be drawing it out as long as possible to make his statement.

Kyrie has and still does a lot of good things for less fortunate people, but it's hard to not dislike him for this nonsense.

I just don't get it from his or pretty much any anti-vaccination perspective.

African Americans-historically and currently- have at least legitimate reasons not to trust vaccines (and healthcare systems). I think it fair to accept that the starting point for some people is going to be from a negative standpoint. That being said, Kyrie is notorious for wild takes to prop up his thin ego that serves as a tremendous distraction for his teammates. I do enjoy watching the consequences of his enablers- even if they are likeable folks like Steve Nash and KD. Who knows how this plays out, undoubtedly it will result in losing more games than winning.

They made more than I will make in my lifetime and still think they need to steal. What gives?

I have some sympathy for NBA players who lose their money. They are handed millions of dollars after often growing up without much money. They aren't generally well educated nor have much training about how to properly manage money. And in many cases their entire extended families and friend groups are hoping for a cut of the money, so it pretty quickly gets divided up into a car or house for your parents, some cash for an investment for your high school friends, a ring for your girlfriend, whatever. Some of them get taken in by pyramid schemes or financial scams. And in many cases they're talked into buying expensive things like houses and cars to keep up with other players and celebrities. Before you know it you've burned through that seemingly infinite $5 million that you thought would last you a lifetime.

None of that excuses defrauding the league, but I sort of get how they could get into financial trouble despite having so much money. I think the league is doing better these days about connecting young players with financial advisors to help them figure these things out and help them avoid pitfalls.

It is a very good commercial for the NBA.
