Paul Silas averaged 14 pts., 12 rebs. and 3.4 assts. in his three seasons with the Suns.
He won two championships with the Celtics and one with the Sonics (now Thunder).

Ok here we go. I went back and counted every all-nba selection given to a pg(based on their basketball-reference position) and noted which franchise they played for. I only went back to the merger, so apologies to Jerry West, Walt Frazier, Oscar Robertson, Bob Cousy and the teams they played for as they are not counted in here.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:47 pmSide note: Is any other franchise as loaded at guard as we are? Specifically pg? If you got specific with positions, we’d have Jason Kidd as our 4th string pg in franchise history. Then you still have Marbury, Dragic, IT, Rubio. I might do some research and be back with an interesting (at least to me ) post.
In order of total all-nba selections by a pg:
1. Phoenix - 17
2. Jazz - 14
3. Warriors, Lakers, Sonics - 10
6. Thunder - 9
7. Pistons - 8
8. Clippers, Blazers - 6
10. Celtics, Nets, Wizards - 5
Yes the Sonics/Thunder would be first at 19 if you counted them together. Gary Payton/Russell Westbrook sure got a lot of all-nba selections.
In order of 1st Team All-NBA selections:
1. Lakers - 9(All Magic)
2. Suns - 8
3. Warriors - 4
4. Sonics, Pistons, Clippers - 3
7. Jazz, Thunder, Nets, Magic - 2
In order of # of players to be named all-nba:
1. Suns - 8
2. Celtics - 5
3. Wizards, Nets, Jazz - 3
4. Warriors, Sonics, Pistons, Clippers, Thunder, 76ers, Hornets -2
In order of # of players to be named 1st Team:
1. Suns - 4
2. Sonics - 2
3. Warriors, Lakers, Jazz, Pistons, Clippers, Blazers, Thunder, 76ers, Nets, Heat, Hornets, Magic, Bulls - 1
The suns all-nba pg’s:
Nash, Kidd, D. Johnson, Westphal all got 1st team
K. Johnson, Paul, Marbury, Dragic got 2nd/3rd team
Westphal had 3 1st team selections, but was only listed as a pg during the 1st one.
Disclaimer - I caught one error on the site I used to calculate this(Had Dragic’s 13-14 3rd team finish listed as for the Heat) so there might be other errors I didn’t catch.
If I went back further I imagine Lakers would dominate this as Jerry West adds 10 1st team all-nba selections.

I didn’t even count Paul Westphal or Dennis Johnson who both were listed as pg’s for some of their season in Phoenix.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 6:50 pm... and then there are Gail Goodrich and Charlie Scott, both of whom won titles after leaving the Suns.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:47 pmSide note: Is any other franchise as loaded at guard as we are? He's not quite a candidate for an all-time great, but Neal Walk deserves an honorable mention.
In 72-73, he played 81 games, with averages of 20.2/12.4/3.5
Walk's 12.4 rpg is second all-time for a season -- Paul Silas had 12.5 rpg the season before.
Next year Walk was 16.8/10.2/4.0.
And he had two other years of double figure pts and rebounds of more than 8 pg.
He then went vegetarian, lost about 20 lbs and eventually lost enthusiasm for pro-basketball.
Interesting story about how he went from gym rat to psychic explorer and vagabond traveler ...

I can't seem to find the clip now, but the angle I saw, DA had THJ sealed behind him. Booker could've just dropped off a bounce pass to DA that would've had a much higher rate of success than throwing it over the rim from the compromised position he was in.Indy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 8:34 amI think I've watched it a dozen times now, and I don't think so. His man was right on him, 7' 3" KP was standing in the paint trying to get him to pass it off, and Tim Hardaway Jr. was just lying in wait for that dump pass to DA. I think the best option was to throw it off the back board and let Ayton go get it. Fortunately it went in.pickle wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 2:31 amThat was a beautiful shot, and I apologize for being a party pooper, but he could've dropped it off for an easy dunk by Ayton... don't think shot clock was an issue. The announcers also commented on another play where he took a short jumper instead of dumping it off to Ayton.
Re: Game Day: Suns (10-3) vs Mavericks (9-4), Wed 17-NOV-2021
I’m not sure, there wasn’t a direct pass, so a lot would have to go right for the pass to work. Book would have to throw a good pass, Ayton would have to first be expecting it and 2nd actually catch it. All 3 could easily go wrong. Then Ayton would have had to go up strong and do it quickly. This might be the least likely to happen. Ayton rarely attacks quickly if it isn’t a lob or tip in. He catches and waits, anticipating defenders until he’s covered too often. Booker taking what was a low percentage shot and having Ayton to clean up a potential miss seems like the best plan there to me.

It's all hypothetical obviously, so I don't pretend to know what the results might be. I'll try to find the actual game footage and see what the player positions were, but at the end of the play when the shot went in, my recollection is that DA had nobody between him and Porzingis, and the only defender (THJ) was on his back, so there was plenty of room and angle to drop a simple bounce pass to him and he could've gone straight up. Not that important I guess.
Re: Game Day: Suns (10-3) vs Mavericks (9-4), Wed 17-NOV-2021
I just looked at it again. There were still 13 seconds on the shot clock, but DA didn't exactly have THJ sealed, and Booker might not have been able to see the opening with Porzingis right in front of him. But THJ was definitely behind him and there was an easy pass to be made, since Book had reached around Porzingis already with the ball to be able to put it up. It doesn't look like there are chemistry issues between him and DA so I'm not trying to create friction for them, but I guess there are times when Book chooses to shoot when another player might have chosen to pass.

Helluva move and play by Booker. Wow! I just took a look at it again in slow motion.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Yup. Why haven't you started the thread yet? 11 would be heaven.

Fair point but I guess I haven’t started a new thread ever in this board and I don’t want the first one to be a jinx …

You see, during our winning streak, we've had a series of posters. Sure, it's going to end on somebody's watch but you could have taken a victory here. Nobody is going to get on the person who makes the game day thread when we finally lose. Not too bad anyway.
