NBA Playoffs WCSF, Game 7: Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns (3-3), Sunday 15/05/22

Post by bajanguy008 »

Time: 5:00 pm AZ (5:00 pm PT/8:00 pm ET)
Place: Footprint Center, Phoenix, AZ
TV: TNT

So here we are folks, GAME 7.....
I will be honest, it's basically 6AM here more than 12hrs away from Tip Off and just making this thread and thinking about the game does have me nervous. Here's the facts though, we haven't played consistently but we've been better at home to be 3-0. I'll pray for you guys who will subject yourself to the audio tonight (I guess Reggie lol   ) but on TNT funny enough we're 3-0..

Kidd has done a good job with his schemes, those the facts. At the end of the day though, I still choose to believe that Monty/CP3 will be able to have a couple ways to find success. In my opinion the short roll is still one of our best modes of attack which means DA and Mikal also (we did guard/guard screens) gotta do work in that free throw line, middy area.

The others play better at home, those the facts. It is going to take a collective effort including the home crowd and us fans so here we are one game away from consecutive Western Conference Finals. Everything is still right in front of us for the taking and I'm not gonna start doubting The Fellas now. We were suppose to mentally crack from the disappointment of last year and we've responded all season. Time to tap into that resiliency again because ironically, despite what the betting odds say I believe there's lot of We not Legit talk which almost puts us back in that underdog scenario where I think the guys strive.
Time to handle business 8-)

Go Suns !!!

The first thing I'm going to look at will be the turnover margin. Feels like the Suns need to be -5 or better to win.

I also want to see the desperation plays. Which team is getting the 50/50 balls and putting more effort on the defensive side.

I'm terrified.

TOs are night and day between our wins and losses.
TOs
Wins: +0.33 (-1, -2, +4)
Losses: -9.33 (-6, -6, -16)
Diff: -9.66

FGAs are a huge difference maker, too (and TOs are a part of that)
FGAs
Wins: +6.33 (+6, -3, +16)
Losses: -4.67 (-14, -1, +1)
Diff: 11.0

But assists seems to tell the story even more. In our wins we average 13 more assists per game than Dallas. And in our losses we are. basically equal.
Assists
Wins: +13 (+11, +9, +19)
Losses: +1 (-2, +5, 0)
Diff: +12

We need to get more shots up than Dallas today, and they needed to be assisted shots.

Might want to double-check your subtraction.

Well, it sucks to have our backs up against the wall. But this feels like a fair shot. We get to play Game 7 at home in front of our own great fans, we get a pretty reasonable crew of officials, and we're generally healthy (other than maybe a secret CP3 injury since Game 2?). That's about as good as you can ask for.

Luka theatrics aside, I still feel that we're better than this Mavs team. We just have to play our game and we can and should beat these guys. They haven't beaten us at home this postseason. They are the ones who should be worried.

LET'S DO THIS!

We need not 1 but 2 guys to step up and carry this team on top of everyone else doing their part. CP3 can't do it all, I expect Booker to have a great game, we just need 1 more to be on and have a 25-30+ game. What I would really like is DA to go into beast mode and say he is The Man. Don't rely strictly on the jump shot and DUNK IT! Can he do this? I think he is fully capable. Will he? I claim the 5th.

I'd also like to see a bit more of a 2022 shot distribution. We're not going to win letting them take 50 3s while we take 10.

Looks like it was an addition issue to me. I didn't get enough sleep either. Stayed up way too late.

I don't know about that. Nobody is going to out-want Book. I think it comes down to execution and contributions from everybody. Also stingy defense, can't let the Mavs score every time down the court like they seemed to in their home games.

This is it, fellas. Our season comes down to one game. I ain't gonna like, I'm as nervous as hell. The next 4.5 hours are going to crawl. I'm a social drinker but I'm going to join Indy with some bourbon tonight to take the edge off. If god forbid we lose, there's a good chance I drink too much and call in sick to work tomorrow. It would be a major downer after the season we had. Here's to a concentrated team effort tonight and victory propelling us into the Western Conference Finals! One more time, LET'S DO THIS!!!

I don't know if we could get a more favorable duo than Zarba and Brothers. Maybe if The Gorilla was officiating.

Well I've been harping on this in the other thread but yea

The Twin, Jae and Landry gonna get looks
Just gotta be decisive either way, let it fly or attack off the bounce which for me been available often.

We only took Eighteen 3s last game, making just 6. Not sure what that was all about but can't see those lack of attempts being what we looking for

The 3-point attempts don't really worry me as long as they're being tough at the rim. Can't have guys being soft and missing layups like in Game 6.

It’s all up to us - no excuses, just get the job done. I’m looking for the same intensity they brought from the get go in game 5 - set the tone and everything flows from there.
