REVEALED: George Soros, Clinton and Obama staffers and European governments are behind anti-Musk campaign to force big corporations to boycott Twitter - after Elon demanded to know 'who funds these organizations?'
  • A group of 26 activist organizations and NGOs signed a letter to companies who advertise on Twitter, warning them to reconsider if Elon Musk makes changes
  • Musk has pledged to lift the 'censorship' of Twitter: critics worry that he will give free rein to those trafficking in hate speech and dangerous scientific theories
  • The letter writers said that Musk 'will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety'
  • They wrote: 'Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached'
  • Musk replied, wanting to know who was behind the 26 groups signing the letter, and commenting: 'Sunlight is the best disinfectant'

Some of the most high-profile liberal figures have joined together to encourage advertisers to boycott Twitter if Elon Musk brings in his promised policy of unfettered 'free speech.'

Twenty six NGOs and advocacy groups signed a letter expressing concern about the world's richest man's plan.

Musk himself responded to the letter asking who funded them: the answer being an assortment of 'dark money groups' like George Soros's Open Society Foundation; NGOs founded by former Clinton and Obama administration staffers; wealthy Democrat donors and their family foundations; labor unions; and the governments of European nations.

'Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized,' they wrote.

They warned that advertising on Twitter would see their company 'risks association with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists.'

The authors continued: 'Under Musk's management, Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached, polluting our information ecosystem in a time where trust in institutions and news media is already at an all-time low.

'Your ad dollars can either fund Musk's vanity project or hold him to account. We call on you to demand Musk uphold these basic standards of community trust and safety, and to pull your advertising spending from Twitter if they are not.'

Musk, in response to the letter, tweeted: 'Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to information? Let's investigate …'

Piqued by the critique, he added: 'Sunlight is the best disinfectant.'

The letter signed by the 26 groups was sent on headed paper bearing the logos of Accountable Tech, Media Matters for America, and Ultraviolet.

ACCOUNTABLE TECH - NICOLE GILL, CO-FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Accountable Tech is a Washington DC-based group led by Nicole Gill, a political campaigner and founder of the 2017 Tax March, and Jesse Lehrich, a former foreign policy spokesman for Hillary Clinton's campaign and the nephew of David Axelrod, former senior adviser to Barack Obama.

'Social media giants are eroding our consensus reality and pushing democracy to the brink,' they state on their website.

Musk's purchase of Twitter may be off. He says it's due to a pending investigation about bot accounts, but that sounds like BS to me. Everybody already knows there are some bots on Twitter. The excuse sounds like cover for some kind of other issue, such as maybe a funding problem, or maybe cold feet / changing his mind about wanting to buy. Or maybe it's all an elaborate game to cause Twitter's share price to drop, so that then he can make a new lower bid to buy it more cheaply. Or something. Anyway:

With the drop in nearly everything the last few weeks, his TSLA leverage isn't nearly as big. So it might impact his funding. And TWTR is trading around $41/share, and he offered ~54?

Elon officially comes out as a Republican. Says the Dems are the party of hate. Sure.

It seems like things are not looking so good for Elon. His bid to take over Twitter is going poorly; he is having trouble securing the money to buy it, and now he's trying to wiggle out of the purchase. Meanwhile the price is going down, making it a bad deal in the first place. Also Tesla stock is falling due to shaken confidence. And now he comes out and takes a partisan political position that may alienate half of his company's customers. If you read this guy's tweets he sounds like an immature 12 year old boy who still thinks it's funny to make "69" and "420" jokes and make fun of fat people and "the libs." He comes across as a real piece of work. Would you invest in this guy?

I have a hard time believing that half of Tesla customers are GOP voters.

That's quite the framing. He's been getting political attacks since he started talking about buying Twitter and became the largest stock holder. It's hardly a surprise that anything he says will now be scrutinized and twisted in the way that makes that person feel better about themselves. Nearly every stock is down, so I'm not personally surprised that Tesla is taking a hit also. I also don't know if it's a fact that he can't get the funds to make the purchase.

He hasn't been able to get Parag to verify with certainty that Twitter is populated with less than 5% of bots. You could point to quite number of indicators that show that's not actually the case and it is much higher. This would open him up after the sale is final for a lot of lawsuits from stockholders, investors, users and advertisers as they base their own value and money they have on it being <5%, if it's indeed found to be much higher.

He is just backing out because that is what he does. It is weird to see you defending this guy all of the sudden. I wonder why.

I have been talking about what a shitty person he is for years. Nothing here is based on party affiliation or if he wants to buy twitter.

I don't know if he's good or bad, but you apparently have made up your mind that he's a shitty person. That's fine for you.

And you know none of the engineers and designers that worked on these cars for YEARS before Elon bought the company ever spent time for that. But he has a "genius" moment and flew into the room and said "I got it!"

Good point. Electric cars, wind and solar are bad words in the GOP vocabulary.
