Follow up question. If we do get him, what players do we have to give up in that particular trade? That is, don't include Ayton if that were to happen in a separate deal.
I think we get him. I think the trade will probably end up being Mikal plus contracts(probably Saric and Craig)and 4-5 picks for KD. I do think something from an Ayton deal will be included(maybe a player, but most likely a pick)

That's true that maybe the Ayton domino has to fall first and something acquired from said trade could be included.
First, Kyrie is traded to the Lakers for Westbrook and filler.
This really pushes KD, but the Nets are now looking to tank, so they take back a collection of expiring contracts and draft picks from a 3-team deal with Indiana, where Ayton goes to Indy and KD to Phoenix. Best part is that we keep Bridges.

That would be the dream scenario. If we keep Mikal and land KD, it almost doesn’t matter how we fill out the rest of the roster, that’s an incredible top 4.

The negotiations aren't really going anywhere due to Brooklyn's apparent lack of interest in Ayton. The Suns will have their full attention on KD once Ayton's situation is resolved.

The Nets will refuse to trade him until during the season, and we get him for expiring contracts/filler plus picks. No Bridges, Johnson, or Ayton included.
Just my random guess at the moment.

Hard to include Ayton when he won't be on the team.

That doesn’t seem smart by the nets. I get they want to get the most they can for KD but they need to realize their contention days are over. It’s weird they want to try and compete still.

I think there's a fair bit of ego and job security going on with Sean Marks. Not that I really fault him for it...

They don’t have their own picks. It’s doesn’t benefit them to tank.

Hard to include Ayton when he won't be on the team.
Also hard to include him if we matched an offer sheet for him.

Actually, if he waives his no-trade clause, the timing (January 15) might work perfectly for when Brooklyn falls apart.
