How did they clear space? They only have 26, right?

I think they declined team options for some end of the bench players.

That’s the only thing you get from those quotes? Did you hear where Ayton said he wanted a bigger role in the offense and was shot down? He wanted to do more. Monte and CP3 limit him. His numbers went down with CP3, not up. That says something.
In the B.C. years, Ayton averaged 15.34 FGA/36 and scored 19.73/36 on 56.95%FG.

In the W.C. years, Ayton averaged 13.0 FGA/36 and scored 18.75/36 on 63.0%FG.

So yeah, his took 2 less shots per 36 minutes, and scored 1 less point per 36. But he was WAY more efficient with CP--a 6% increase in FG% is ridiculous.

Also, his Oboards went down by 0.5/36--If he even kept that at the same as before Paul, it should have given him the same scoring average as before.
You're skewing this in two ways:

1. His minutes also went down with CP3.

2. You're including his rookie year. Come on. He should have had more minutes and more FGA attempts his third year than his second year than his first year.

So basically you need to compare his FGA with CP3 to his expected/projected FGA attempts in year 3. Instead of increasing in year 3, his field goal attempts actually decreased by one third. That's incredibly destructive to a developing big man's offensive growth.

I think this deserves its own thread. I’ll say this, if they lose Ayton and don’t get KD….

If we trade Ayton and then the suns face Ayton’s new team in the playoffs, would you root for the suns? I’m assuming yes, you’ve been a suns fan your whole life, but that’s how I’d determine whether you were a bigger suns fan or Ayton fan. For the record, I’m not questioning your suns fandom. I trust you are and have always been a suns fan.
Dude...how is that even a question? I've been waiting my whole life for a champonship.
I mean I don’t know you, but I also said I assumed you would cheer for the suns

LOL, I recently saw some else said “Go to hell idiot” but I’m the one calling personal stuff, good one Jeremy, but let’s take it from here then.

Minorities matter, but 31% percent is not enough to pass any kind of bill -as a Max Contract would be- and particularly, on a poll with a Yes or No choice on it, 31% is clearly being on the wrong side of it, on this cases it’s not sizable, it’s just plain wrong by a landslide. And to use your own style, you would run to point out that 937 IS NOT a thousand people, so you are plain wrong.

What about the paragraph about the market settling the max discussion? Theres was nothing personal on it, why did you leave it out of your response?
The minority is always wrong? That sounds like a dangerous approach to take. Besides, my point was not whether I am on the right side or wrong side, but whether there are others (unrelated to Deandre) that are on my side.

After Ayton signs a contract, I'll address the market discussion.
Funny way to backpedal things, you were pretty insisting about how the entire league was willing to max Ayton, once proved wrong, you are leaving it for later, hindsight in hand.
Only because the market had not spoken yet.

The market value for DA says that he is a max player.

He's the kind of max player who will get the contract but not really deserve it. Lots of these guys around.

Also, Bill Duffy is a veteran at this. I'm surprised at all of the harsh criticism he got on here.

What I find funny about people thinking I’m an Ayton fan over a Suns fan is that if that were the case, I would want the Suns to trade Ayton yesterday.
For the record, I've never thought that.

Nope. Got that too. In other words, he wants what's best for him over what's best for the team.

It is not Monty or CP3 limiting him. He literally can get as many shots as he wants from O-boards. Or during his 12 DHOs he runs each game. Or by taking 3s. They have been asking him to do that forever.

I do wonder how the Ayton stans feel about Ayton’s role next year if we do bring in KD and match Ayton somehow. He’s not going to get an expanded role, if anything it’ll be scaled back even more. Would you feel ok paying max money to what is essentially a suped up version of Javale McGee?

Personally I think we’d probably keep him all year and then try to trade him next offseason…

I would feel wonderful paying max money to Deandre Ayton. :P

But putting the Ayton bias aside, I would feel wonderful paying max money for a center who helps us win a championship.

I think the best way to keep Ayton hyped up and happy about playing in the Suns system would be to bring in KD and go all in for the championship. I don't think he would have as much of a problem with a limited offensive role if they have KD.

But he complained about not getting more shots when the ONLY person on the team taking more shots was Book.

His numbers I don’t think would change much. He’s young and could eat up all the regular season FGs so long as when the postseason hits, we all know who has the ball in their hands. Perhaps KD could chill him out and find ways to put him in better scoring position.
Cool thing about Book has been how selfless he has been. Scorers like him usually want to rack up all the shots they can and handle the ball as much as possible. Book has changed his game and adapted many times over. When Harden was at his peak bullshit, everyone was calling for point Book to do the same. Instead, Book learned how to get easy buckets without the ball and having to dribble the air out the ball.

If the Suns match, I'm definitely more interested to hear what Duffy and/or Ayton say about it than the Suns.

This line of argument doesn’t address the important question: what’s better for the Suns?

Yes, we could feed DA all game and have him put up 10 more shots a game and score 23 points instead of 17. I don’t think that translates to more wins.
