they will TRY to compete for a playoff spot. what they WON'T do is play the rookies significant minutes. and when i say "significant minutes", more than 20 mins a game for each of the lottery picks. THAT i can tell you.Sunsfan4life wrote:10mil is the new MLE. Dudley will tech the kids how to be professional while having fun. I don't expect to compete for the next 2 yrs (atleast) and neither should you. When I say compete I mean for a playoff spot, not play hard in general.

Re: Suns News: The Offseason (2016)
Dudley is a good guy but I swear I was so tired of watching him play by the time he left. He isn't a 3 because he is too damn slow to actually guard anyone his size. He tries on defense but he isn't any good at it. The worst is watching him try to drive the ball to the basket. His only out in that situation is a foul. He can't make a layup while being guarded if his life depended on it. He can shoot the three though.
The good news is Bender won't have to improve all that much before he starts playing more than Dudley.
At least we didn't sign a quality starting power forward. They have definitely left the door wide open for the rookies. Which is great news.

Re: Jared Dudley return to Suns in 3-year, $30m deal
I am actually pretty happy with this signing. He has a great attitude, knows his role, doesn't complain or gripe about touches or minutes or stats. He will be a great presence in the locker room, loves Phoenix and playing for the Suns. A link to better days when Nash was feeding everybody the ball. I like his social media presence and his interaction with fans. I like his 3-point shooting and (mostly) his defense, though the D is a bit worse recently. I think he will be good for team unity, getting guys to have a good attitude, work hard, be cheerful, be on each other's side, work together, etc. The past few years we undervalued culture and community between our players and staff, and I think lately they are making a few moves to fix that, which I think is really important for a young growing team.
I don't mind the length of the contract nor the salary. Yes, it is a bit much by say 2014 standards. But I think given the cap right now it's a totally fair salary and not a very long contract at the end of the day. I would rather give this contract to Dudley than Teletovic or Tucker (whose shooting and D have fallen off a bit, though still above average), and Tele got way more money than this anyway. In the current NBA economy this is a pretty fair deal for a role playing 3-and-D stretch forward like Dudley.
Welcome back JMZ!!!

The kind of move we needed. People yawn but he brings what many were demanding or felt this teams needs. Won't stunt the development of the kids, will be a pro, will deliver within his posibilities, adds versatility and won't cost a fortune for the privilege of not moving the needle.
And absolutely, there doesn't need to be a choice, but I would take Dudley over Teletovic any day (although Teletowar had his moments last season for sure).

The Dudley you are describing is the fat, injuried one. If in shape and healthy he can contribute tremendously to wins. And if he truly is done as a relevant role player, before you know it he is expiring and at the very least he can serve as a good influence to the kids. Driving to the basket is not his game, that for sure hahah.EDC wrote:Dudley is a good guy but I swear I was so tired of watching him play by the time he left. My bad. Even at the same money I would prefer Dudley. I think Mirza is still hoping for a bigger role and hopes to play on a contender. Dudley is happier in Phoenix and more of a positive energy and glue guy.Superbone wrote:Didn't they get the same?Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I would rather give this contract to Dudley than Teletovic or Tucker (whose shooting and D have fallen off a bit, though still above average), and Tele got way more money than this anyway.

Re: Suns News: The Offseason (2016)
This is after they guaranteed Tucker's salary for the upcoming season. I just don't get it either. I hope all the supporters of this signing enjoy watching Tucker and Dudley on the floor together. I expect they will be Watson's two favorites. They are almost a mirror image of his playing career, only just a little bigger in stature.carey wrote:UGH. Love JMZ, but why? Doesn't make sense with Tucker here it's the exact same role.
The most surprising thing is how well this is being received by most Suns fans. These are the same fans that constantly complain about the Suns not making any moves that point them in the direction of a Championship. They say that all we have are a bunch of role players. Well we just added another one.
How does the signing of Dudley improve our championship aspirations?
If Tucker is part of a trade package in the near future, I can be convinced that Dudley was a good signing. If Tucker is still on the roster to start the season, WTF.
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.
Re: Jared Dudley return to Suns in 3-year, $30m deal
We needed a reliable stretch 4, that's what Dudley will be. He'll bridge the gap til we can get something out of Bender and Chriss. He'll also be a good teammate and role model for them. We're not in a win now situation, so I dont think championship aspirations have any bearing here.
Love, Hurts.
Re: Jared Dudley return to Suns in 3-year, $30m deal
I'm fine with Duds' signing. We know him, he's a fan fave, great lockerroom guy, can play 30 minutes or not all and still be a pro. If I wanted to nitpick something, it'd be that we're paying a guy to mentor the young ones while we have Tyson Chandler and PJ Tucker on the team, not to mention our max guys Bledsoe and Knight who have been in the league like 5-6 years. And while we do have young players, I wouldn't say they're immature. I think Duds' signing might signal some trades coming but we'll have to wait and see. He'd be the constant for the young guys as others are moved.
Re: Suns News: The Offseason (2016)
He doesn't actively break our core, so its the best summer signing in a while. What he does on the court is less important than what he does in the locker room. And if he frees us to trade Tucker for a pick, all the better.JustWinBaby wrote:This is after they guaranteed Tucker's salary for the upcoming season. I just don't get it either. We hope to see small on court roles for both Tucker and Duds.

That's another aspect that I like about this Dudley signing. I think the Suns know they can get a future 1st from a playoff team for Tucker, and they'd like to jump on such a deal, but they don't want to leave too big of a hole at SF. Warren can take some of those minutes but may not be ready to play 30+ and start every night. So they bring in Dudley to give some stability at that position and give us flexibility if we want to deal Tucker. PJ is a workhorse but I'm ready to part with him if we can get a future asset in return. And if he frees us to trade Tucker for a pick, all the better.

Re: Jared Dudley return to Suns in 3-year, $30m deal
I really cannot understand the support this guy gets. Three teams have said adios to him since we traded him for Bledsoe, the Clippers, Bucks and Wizards. I guess you and all the Suns fans are smarter than the GM's at those three franchises. I have not heard about any fans from those three franchises losing any sleep due to him no longer playing for their team. He never got a call from Washington and I only know of one other offer. That was a two year deal from Brooklyn. We gave him another year and $1 Mil more per year than they offered. We had to outbid the freaking Nets to show value to him. Thus he chose us due to the money. Let's not fool ourselves, it is all about the money.TheOriginalOriginal wrote:We needed a reliable stretch 4, that's what Dudley will be. Now if Tucker is on his way out the door, I will give him a chance.
What date on the calendar should we start having championship aspirations? Will it be this decade? Will it be this century?
